I have not been to any of the stores in SF, so keep that in mind.

1) Tropical Paradise in industrial part of Hayward - average prices but great selection and exceptional management. Eddie, the owner, allows me to trade frags for credit, which means I seldom pay full price for anything.

2) Fish 99 in downtown San Bruno- place totally sucks except for two things: it's really, really cheap and there are many fish to select. When I say cheap, I am talking about half the price of other places for MOST stuff.

3) Aquatic Gallary in Milpitas- pretty good prices, lots of coral, great management.

I'm biased - Aquatic Gallery in Mipitas cuz I live in Milpitas so I always can get cherry picks 8). But to be honest I like the following three in no particular order:

1. Aquatic Gallery
2. Tropical Paradise
3. Aquarium Concepts

and if there were a forth I like the little store Atlantis in Fremont.

When it comes to ensuring really healthy, net-caught fish, Natural Life is a really good store. In fact, I went to the Aquatic Gallary again, and I think I'd replace it with Natural Life after seeing the shark stuck in the tiny tank and the number of brown coral.

I am from Sacramento, but I come down there quite often. I regularly visit Aquatic Gallery and TP, but other than that I am not familiar with the other stores.
Where is Aquarium Concepts located? what about Natural Life?
Thanks,
James

I've always wanted to visit Great Bay but you say it is crappy? Is it really not worth the visit?

Thanks for any feedback,
john

As of lately, GB's selection has been very Nil and very so so. Ever since the store was sold, the new ownership hasn't been able to bring in the same quality or selection of the past. As you know, many stores in the bay used to buy Corals from GB including TropicalP. The old owner is now running a coral wholesale business, and is still distibuting his goods to many local stores.

thats what i needed. Oh tubs I wouldn't say that great bay is crappy they have mainly have softies but at great prices I hear they will get more acros soon. Tubs i think the only place that would interest you would be tpa or aquatic gallery. By the way when will you get more zoos.

I like Tropical Paradise and Aquatic Gallery.

I buy Jebo nano tanks for very cheap at 99 Pet but fish keeping ethics are kind of non-existent there. One example being the dozens and dozens of Mandarin Gobies that they will have on hand at any time.

I guess 6th Avenue in SF is also a guilty pleasure in that their drygoods are priced well, but livestock is pretty crammed in.

There's a simple answer to the ethics problem. Don't buy from them.

Yea 6th ave in SF is horrible for livestock, but they are cheap. My friend and i are sad that we dont really have a outstanding LFS here in SF. can anyone recogmend a good place for varieties of LR?

Can anyone give me an address for Aquatic Gallery in Milpitas? yellowpages.com nor smartyellowpages.com gave me any addresses. I'd like to go there and check it out.

I went to Natural Life in Sunnyvale, and it was a nice place, I ended up trading my Maroon Clownfish for two False Percula Clownfish. The prices were pretty good also!

The address is 115 North Milpitas Blvd., Milpitas, CA
408-262-3490
It is really easy to find. If you are driving on 880 or 680, get off on Calavares Blvd. That will cross N. Milpitas Blvd and Aquatic Gallery is in the shopping center near OSH.
Oh....tell Dr. Le that JAMES from Sacramento directed you there! HA! He is a really nice guy.

Thanks for the directions, found it without a problem. Pretty nice place, no sharks in small tanks anymore, or at least I didn't see it. Unfortunatly they didn't have any Cleaner Shrimp :(. (untill Tuesday)

Maybe I'll head up to another tomorrow, I seem to be making my rounds in the Bay Area LFS's.
