I have a rhodactis colony that is growing like nuts and starting to smother the surrounding zoo colonies which are on the rock around it. I hate to kill them, is there any good way to harvest or prune them back without destroying them?

Right now my only plan is to go in there with an exacto and whittle them off the rock and try to attach what I scrape off onto another rock elsewhere in the tank.

Thanks.

that sounds like a good plan to me!

I use a small flat screwdriver to dig into the rock under the mushroom. This allows me to remove the mushroom on a rock chip which will minimize the damage to the shroom and also allows for easy attachment to a new rock.

The screw driver method did the trick nicely. The one's I couldn't get a good purchase on with that I just used a fingernail to scrape off. All in all I transplanted about 10 good sized mushrooms!

Thanks!

Glad it worked for you.

Most of my shrooms are on flat pieces of rocks or they are either of porous rocks. I just use small wire cutters to cut the rock.
