Hi,

I plan to make RO water next week so the week after will be ordering Live Rock from either ECC or Jeffs. Once I find out how many boxed everyone wants I will place the order.

Please let me know how many boxes you want and what kind you want. Once I hear from you all I will call ECC and Jeffs and see who has the best price. and firm up the order.

Thanks,

I won't be ready yet, but, if I remember correctly, you will ordering more later. Hoefully, I can go in on that one.

You may not be ready now. However, keep in mind that you will have to cure the rock for 3-5 weeks before it is ready to be put into your tank.

Jeff's exotics has Tonga Branch for $1.99 lb in 50 lb boxes - that's a very good deal in my opinion.
How/when do you think you will place your order ?

Norm,

What's the shipping like from Jeff's Exotic Fish? Gregg and I ordered just a few things and shipping was rather high. I'd ask how much the freight would be before buying the $1.99 LR. The shipping might even cost more than the rock/lb.

When I ordered 90# thru Jeff's it cost me about $55 at the airport....not bad.Blue

I'm going to LA this weekend. For the first time ever I'm driving. I could be persuaded to bring back some LR. It might cost a beer. I could use 50lbs of Tonga Branch.

I would prefer bay watch over some live rock and will through in the beer for delivery.

No problem Gregg but I think Pam Anderson goes for more than $1.99/pound.

Hi,

Where did you find branch rock for 1.99?? I just checked out Jeff's web site and it is advertised for 2.30 in 50 lbl boxes??

Thanks,

Mike,
You have to be part of their "Fish Club" to get an email with that price and other stuff he has on sale that week. In order to get that price in person, you just give them a printout of the email. Over the phone, just mention the email.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I guess I will be joining his "fish club". Is anyone going to order some of this rock? Is it on sale only for a week?

Thanks,

Jeff's sales are new every week but some stuff caries over from week to week.

Don't forget the Tonga "branch" is literally that... branches, not rounded or flat rocks. It is mostly for decoration, not filtration and structural use. This is why Jeff's sells it at such a good price.

In order for a good rock you need the Tonga deep water and other types like MI and Kalini.

If somebody does order some or picks it up in LA, I'd be interested in doing 10# of Tonga slab/shelf LR.

Hi,

I will be ording live rock the week of Aug 25 with delivery for Aug 28. Who I order from depends on how much we have to order and what price we can get. I am going to start with 250 to 300 pounds for myself. I would like to order full boxes only so if you want part of a box please get with a friend.

Please let me know before the 25th if you are interested in adding to the order, how much and of what kind.

Once I know how much we will be ordering I will call several different locations to get the best price.

Thanks,

Newbie Jeff

Mike,
Where are you ordering from? I might be interested in 50 pounds or so. Would there be any problem if I were to pick it up on the 31st?

Hi,

I won't know where I will be ordering from until I know how much we are going to order. It wouldn't be wise to leave the live rock in the box for several days after shipping. I don't think I will have any place to store it. Maybe someone can help here.

Will keep you posted. As for now I have one other person who needs a box.

Thanks,

If anybody is interested in half/partial boxes, I'm looking to get a small qty of some Tonga slab or Elk LR but I'd prefer the Elk. Pretty much flat or curved or cave like.

Hi,

Thanks to MX_TANG we now have a date by which we must order live rock to be delivered on the 28.

I have to call ECC no later then 08-19-03 and order at least 400 lbs of rock. If anyone is interested please let me know how many POUNDS you would like. We won't get the exact amount of rock but they will try to be close.

Check out the East Coast Clams (http://www.eastcoastclams.com/cgi-bin/shopnow.cgi?ACTION=thispage&thispage=rock.shtml&ORDER_ID=285249726) website. Freight is fairly inexpensive per pound and usually runs anywhere from $.20-$.60/lb.

I was very pleased with ECC for our last order. I wouldn't buy the fiji again but would definately go with the kaelini. The fiji wasn't bad but the Kaelini was that much nicer.

------------- copied from eastcoatclams.com------------------------

Kaelini live rock. It is a deeper water rock from Tonga. Price $2.75 per lb you must order at least one box. Each box averages 50-80 pounds.

Fiji Live Rock Everyone's favorite! $2.25 lb must order at least one box, each box averages 40-50 lbs a box

Marshall Island Live Rock Some of the most unique shapes, very open. Super porous, lightweight rock
Price $3.75 lb you may purchase this at any weight you like. Should get at least 50- 100 pounds to make it worth your while.

Fiji Live Sand $2.00 lb must be ordered with rock, you may purchase this at any weight you like

Hi William,

Rock prices differ from vendor to vendor. Uncured is typically about ½ the cost of cured rock and the distributors transship it to LAX. From there, the boxes are either dropshipped to the customer, retailer, or online vendors. On average, here's how much I've personally seen the different types of LR advertised for sale:

Marshall Islands - $4/lb ± $1

Fiji Branch - $3.75/lb ± $.75

Tonga deepwater - $3.50 ± $.75

Tonga Slab/Shelf - $3.25/lb ± $.50

Tonga Branch - $3.00 ± $.50

Kaelini - $2.75 ± $.25

Fiji - $2.50 ± $.25

The above prices are only guidelines as the prices are seasonal due to availability and collection practices.

I don't think that any of the people we might buy from offers cured live rock.

As soon as you get a handle on the pricing let me know. I will probably go with 100#'s of Kaelini.

Hi,

I will be placing an order for live rock this week for delivery a week from Thur. Right not the price will be 2.25 for Fiji and 2.75 for Kali. This price will go down a little if we order over 400 pounds. The price does not include shipping.

Please let me know by this Wed how much rock you would like.

You will have to pick the rock up at the airport and again I won't be opening any boxes at the airport. Full boxes only please.
