I was at home depot today and checked to see if by chance they had these and sure enough they do. They've got 25 different ones in the isle the hot water heaters are in. Hope this helps someone.

What are guest fittings and what do you need them/ use them for?

I did not realize these were hard to find.

I think the Menard's on Randall Road (Batavia, IL) has a decent selection of these as well (If they are what I think they are). I prefer the Menard's for selection and display of PVC (the HD keeps things in the carboard shipping boxes, and you have to reach in the box and see what it is that the outside is trying to describe.

I do not run John Guest fittings, so what I say might be wrong about those.

I live about a mile (at most) from the HD on Orchard, actually.

I use them on my r.o. unit to connect the water lines to each other. No comression fittings needed just push in the plastic 1/4 inch line and that's it. I believe HD calls them polypropylene fittings.
