I have never heard that common name used for a clownfish before, what species is it?

They are Amphiprion Perideraion. . I found them in" The book of marine Aquarium book by Nick Dakin, Here they are. They are still lacking some of there color, right now are light orange, picture doesnt do them justice either as the actinic changes there color

Yes there most commonly used common name is pink skunk.

You have hit on the problem with common names; they are commonly not used by everyone (so something new gets made to describe the fish in question) or not applied to the same species by everyone. It is pretty common for LFS to mislabel clowns using common names. My personal pet peeve is "black percula", there is no such thing as a black A. Percula, but the name is applied to almost every black and white fish that even resembles a clownfish.

You would think that an LFS would take the time to positively identify their clowns, after all there have been a lot of cheap "clarki's" sold that were in fact quite rare and expensive clowns that look similar to A. Clarkii.

I am affraid I forgot what they called them and I looked them up in my book for the name when I got them home. I think she called them skunks come to think of it. So was my fault not the LFS. So , are they Pink skunks? And or Salmon clowns? Or did I mess up all the way around on the name? Thanks for any help in the description of them.

If you use "pink skunk" most people will know what species you are talking about.

Nope, not mine and not a Tomato. That is an A. Thiellei. The picture is from a Japanese web site that had it pictured for sale for a LFS there. Most people think that they are a naturally occurring hybrid. Quite rare (so rare it doesn't have a true common name), a few come in to LA, but almost never make it to a LFS, a collector will snag them long before then. A few show up in Asia each year too.

Humm I would like to see that "clarkii" when it gets a bit bigger, it has some characteristics of a A. Chrysogaster, but it is hard to tell with the tail not clearly visible in either picture. Likely a clarkii, but like I said, a lot of rare and expensive clowns have been sold as clarkiis.

Unusual tail, likely a deformity. They are A. Clarkii for sure.

J,
I see you breed these beautys. How big are the tanks that you breed them in? Filter? Lighting? No LR OR LS?
Do you have full view of the tanks we could see. Beautiful black and white you have. Any for sale?

Brood stock tanks are either 50g or 20g depending on species of clownfish.

Filtration is via LR, LS, EuroReef CS-8-3 and a CSL 36w UV unit.

Lighting is VHO with URI daylight bulbs on IC 660 with a Solar 1000 controller.

No pictures until the fish room is publicly presentable. ;)

I will have some orange and white A. Ocellaris in about 4 months. I will also have a mated pair of A. Sandaracinos in a couple months too. Who knows what else will come out of that fish room, you might just seen some pretty neat things in the future. ;) You will also be able to get them from LFS in the area.

Which black pair? I have two, one from the ORA stain which is all black, no orange. One from the English strain that has mottled orange on fins and orange noses.

I am currently good on everything I need but thanks for the offer.
A cooler of some kind is usally good to have in the heat of summer around here plus it helps control any possible leaks on the ride home.
The meetings start at 4pm and run till 6pm or on depending on chatabillity of others.
