Seaweed

I live by the ocean and I constantly see seaweed on the beaches and floating in the water. I was wondering if there is any benefits to putting in my fuge? If yes then will it just grow like macros grow? I mean floating in the water or does the stuff floating in the ocean already dead and detached from a larger plant somewhere on the bottom of the sea?

I took some sargassum that was floating in the ocean and placed it in my fuge a week ago.
It is doing fine.
One thing that you need to consider is your location.
Being as far north as you are will the plant survive the warm temps of your tank?

Do you know what benefits you get from keeping it? Do the fish eat it like macroalgae. I got to admit that is not the prettiest looking plant/algae I've seen...

I use the macro algaes only in my refugium.
They are there o absorb nitrates, phosphates and ammonias.
They are also home to 'pods as well.
