OK, I bought a spiny lobster. It was so cool looking at the store. Has anybody had problems with them? They don't have big front claws and he's been in the reef tank for about a day.

Thoughts, comments?

I just want to know what everyone thinks of them....

I was under the impression that lobsters were not reef safe.... {shrug} ??

I agree with bdr127 and belive they are not reef safe. I think you could be heading for trouble. Cool animals though if kept in a species or f/o tank.

I saw a purple lobster at Living Reef a few weeks ago. Pretty sweet..... but I personally wouldn't trust him with corals, or other fish/inverts for that matter.

So far, so good. The lobster is about 2" long (Body without the feelers). He seems to be OK with the fish and corals. I'm sure he's gonna eat a snail or crab every now and then. I can live with that.

Liveaquaria.com, or what ever, said they're reef safe, with caution. So that's cool. I think I'm OK...

The few people I have known that kept them say that they only come out at night- Kinda sucks....

I don't know much about the spiny lobster, but just wanted to say that we have regreted those impulse buys in the past.

Keep us updated, ok?

One week, so far so good. He and his tank mates are happy...

You can get the idea of his size from the snails and shells around him...

I do have to say that he is quite unique. Nice conversation piece for the tank, mostly b/c not many reefers have lobsters.

Could I get an update on your spiny and it's reef compatibility? How is it doing and did it end up destroying anything?
