Sorry for the late reply, been real busy.

Do you have a lot Henry? Are you willing to trade or sell some? I *might* be coming to Champaign sometime within the next 2 weeks. Maybe we can work someting out.

How was that trip of yours? Did everything go as planned?

If anyone closer has some to get rid of please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated!!!! ;) ;)

no need to trade or buy. you'll find most members of cima prefer to give frags, macros, etc to someone in need. i have more than enough to part with.

trip went very well, thanks. i trust you saw my pics?

FYI, peter hughes dive boats killed another diver in palua 2 weeks ago....did you change plans yet or still planning on diving with peter hughes?

Thanx to both of you guys for your charity. Now the only problem is getting to champaign or decatur to pick it up. If I Am going to be in either of those areas Ill be sure to get a hold of one of you guys.

I did see those pictures Henry. EXCELLENT shots!!!! I was looking for a good digital camera to get and those pics almost made me get a 5700, but I just couldn't justify spending that kind of cash on a camera. I got the 995 instead, at a great price IMO. It should be here tomorrow or Tues. and then I'll send you some real pics of my tank.

I read this about that Palau thing

http://www.scubaboard.com/t25725/sfa36780216ea33873f8c9df13a8a0a1e.html

Here is my feeling on the subject. I feel that it was more the divers fault rather than Peter Hughes. From what was finally decided to have happened to her while she was under she could have done several things to save herself. Maybe if she would have gotten proper training she would have been able to handle that situation. Maybe if her husband would have stayed with her then he would have been able to help her. Then again maybe if they didn't dive at that spot then she wouldn't have gotten tangled up at all. There's a whole lot of maybes in every tragic situation. No one knows what TRULY happened down there. I guess this is the way I look at it ........ The number of deaths with Peter Hughes trips is A LOT lower than the number of people that go on his trips. It might be higher than other places, I don't know. Yes, one of his captains is responsible for the largest tragedies to ever occur in recreational diving history, but I GUARAUNTEE you that that won't be the captain on my trip. The statistics say that there are 76 million cases of food poisoning in the US every year, and 5000 result in death. That doesn't scare me away from eating food other people cooked. That isn't the best comparison and yes there is a whole lot more eating going on than diving, but you get the drift. It is worth the risk and I am already too involved and excited about this trip to pull out now. I do have another 6 months to think about it, but right now it is worth the risk to me. I appreciate the concern and the info about this organization, but I will prolly go through with what I started. Hey, if you do end up dying you can always say I told you so :) ;)

Thanx again for everything guys, It won't be forgotten.

ok, sounds good. you know where to find me :)

the 995 is an excellent camera! users first photos from that camera convinced me to buy a nikon. you should have no problem getting great shots immediately with that one. the 5700 may have been more expensive up front, but the UW housing prices will be exactly the same, FWIW.

I feel that it was more the divers fault rather than Peter Hughes.

for the most part, i feel they were equally at fault. peter hughes was instructing destructive diving methods, and in doing so, taught methods that are likely to kill the unprepared diver, as was the case. however, the diver really should have used common sense and known better.

Maybe if her husband would have stayed with her then he would have been able to help her.

in a 4 knot current you expect someone to be able to control themself? regardless, it brings up what i told you before: diving is taught to be in buddy-pairs, but the the divers that live through accidents are those that are capable of diving solo.

community.webshots.com doesn't allow for remote linking, apparently.

If you right-click the pic and copy the full web-address for the pic, then paste that into your address bar anyone can view it.

Salty - you can see them because your computer has the pictures saved in it's cache (and possibly because you are the "owner" of the web-shots account)...

On the original subject, I may drop by sometime for a hand-out of nice chaet as well... hehe... haven't found a source yet in Indy, but haven't made it to a club meeting yet either. ;)

Thanx for the tips Dense. Try what he said, it worked for me (but so did the pics). Looks like I'm gonna have to try a Yahoo! Account, and we'll see what happens then.

Dense - If you do end up soming to the area get ahold of me too. I could have something for you as well :)

I think you'll run into the same problem with most "free" services.

If you have the urge to hold your own web-domain give these guys a look: http://www.icdsoft.com (333meg of space, 5gig of transfer for $65/year... I paid $80 for this past year...). Alternatively take a spin around http://www.webhostingratings.com/ to find a host you feel comfortable with.

ICD isn't who I use for my personal site, but they are who I will be switching to once my current contract finishes. :D

(I was born and raised in the Hammond area... so I am fairly familiar with the Chicago-land are of the Region anyway and I head up there a few times a year at least... I may take you up on that this summer sometime...) ;)

Is this "the good stuff?"

http://www.densityman.com/images/reef_tank_new/chaetamorpha.jpg

Went on a road trip to Mishawauka this past weekend and stopped in at a biggish pet-store there. Pretty "plain" setup for the livestock, but they all looked in great shape. Had the above clump of macro in a tank with red kelp (no price on the green, red kelp was priced at $15 and looked like segmented cactus except that it was red and transparent). Asked the clerk about it and he said he had no idea what it was, but that they receive their eels and other difficult to transport livestock with clumps of it. If I really wanted it I could take it home for "a couple bucks."

So I paid the $2 for a softball-sized clump of it and we were both pretty happy about the deal.

I was really happy with it after I picked up the bag a while later and noticed just how many bugs it was packed with... *GRIN*

Had I not been 6 hours from home I would have picked up the purple-legged red and white striped pistol shrimp they had... it was beautiful and had just molted that past week. :D

I'll keep an eye on it... trying to buffer the system with plenty of in-tank macro-algae to help prevent (prevent totally) a diatome or hair algae problem. It's an experiment waiting to fail at this point, since the Nitrate has stabalised at 15ppm for the last week... only a matter of time before the hair, brown or red slime appear... /cry

Than's really interesting! Can anyone explain why / how it benefits the animal it is shipped with? I wouldn't think it could produce oxygen in a dark box?

i always try to move fish with clumps of caulerpa, etc. i think the algae creates a safe haven and eases the stress of shipping with no hiding place. JMO.

I was at a LFS today and they had "the goods". Thanx to everyone for the hospitality.

I uploaded some of my Pics to my gallery. I also posted them on this thread.

Henry. I thought you might be interested in this.

It's not for your camera, it's for mine. They usually always have one for the 5700 as well. Someone must have already bought it. They will have another one up for sure, just keep an eye on their eBay store. I bought one just like this auction. At that price I couldn't pass it up. It may not be the best quality stuff, but I am very impressed with it. The Macros of the Pods and Flatworm are taken with the Macro lense that comes with this package.

If you email them with the "Ask seller a question" link you will get an immediate email back with there phone #. They sell their stuff on eBay at the same price that it is if you order it over the phone. Not just the package deals, the Individual items in them as well. Thought you might be interested.
