I've got the hood open and bags of ice floating. Temp is a stead 84. I think I'll be okay.

MtnDewMan,

How's that new chiller holding up in the heat wave?

Lights off, and steady at 82 or so. (of course I am just doing fresh water test so no real worries here.)

Defiantely a heatwave here. It was 91F inside my house yesterday. The chiller runs MUCH more but has kept the tank at 80 or 81 ... not too bad :) Thank goodness I got it when I did.

Good luck in the heat everyone

My heaters finally shut off for the first time in months. Temp in the tank is a sweltering 77.5. I sure hope my Little Temp is acurate...

Friday was a scorcher, and like Mtndewman, I have a 91F inside our apt. Good thing I bought a stand fan a week before. My tanks highest was 80F. Plus 4 deg without the fan.

Saturday was the hottest day for me. The house temp went up to 86. I am so happy that I installed an Aqua Logic chiller two weeks earlier. I was able to keep the tank between 80 and 82 all day with all 4 400w MH running.

It was definitely WAY too hot this past weekend! My tank spiked up to 88.7 for about 6 hours. I installed a second fan, which brought it back down to about 80. Luckily, nobody seems too stressed out about the spike I had...

I live in a top floor condo that faces the sun as it sets. It gets crazy hot in my place during the summer. Last year I bought a air conditioner that's on wheels for $100. It's 6,000 btu's, I have that thing blowing on the corner of my 55g and sump below. So far it's kept the temp below 86. But that doesn't help me at all!

I ordered a 12,000 btu airconditioner to hopefully cool my condo down. Can't wait for it to get here.

I am glad to see this heat wave over as I am sure most of you are too. My tank is located on the lower level of my house so it usually stays at least 5-10 degrees cooler there so my tank only got to 82. A good point was made earlier about the accuratecy of the thermometers we use. I have checked my digital one I use with some other standard glass ones just to make sure my readings are close to accurate. I have heard stories of people who have found there readings up to 3-5 degrees off, not a problem normally but when a heat wave hits it can become one if it is off on the high side.

during the heat wave my tank spiked at 84, way too close for comfort considering it's only june! i was already up to 3 fans in the hood and didn't know what to do next. in a casual conversation with shroomboy, he suggested putting a fan over my sump, so off to wal mart i went. picked up an 8 inch black and decker for 12 bugs and placed it near my sump and voila, spikes went down to 80 and lows hover near 78. of course i have to add a couple more gallons per day, but what the heck, better than buying a 600 buck chiller. thanks shroomer!
