All,
Just received a mushroom shipment from Liveaquaria.com. Otherwise very nice shrooms, but the green hairy mushroom they sent me was very, very smelly. A rotten, putrid smell, detectable immediately upon opening the box.
I acclimated it to my tank anyway, thinking that maybe it was some kind of stress/defense mechanism. After an hour in my tank, I decided to take it back out, because the tank water was beginning to take on the same odor.
My questions are these: why the smell? And, assuming I don't put the rock back in my tank, do you think I have fouled the water to a worrisome degree?
Some info: 38g tank, running Remora skimmer and activated carbon in Aquaclear 200 filter.
