Cool, thanks Mark for being so cordial.
This guy has a beautiful home, awesome reef tank (incredible set up and an wonderful plumbing job) and he makes some mean chili too, lemme tell you (maybe he will mix up another batch for us :-)
It was nice to meet some fellow reefers and just hang out and shoot the bull.
I plan on being there, barring any unforseen circumstances, maybe I can learn some more ;)
Anything you need people to bring?

I've been to NorthCoast's in the past. If you'd like to carpool there I can navigate or drive.

I'd like directions as well -- from 23 North.

I'll be bringing a guest, as well, if that's ok.

Do you need me to bring anything?

I am planning on attending as well. I will likely bring my 16 year old son who is in the midst of starting a 120 gallon reef. I will need directions as well (coming from near the dam at Alum Creek state park). Let me know what I can bring.

sounds pretty fun to me.

is anybody bringing frags? i've been going crazy w/ the scissors lately and have lots of xenia and a couple button polyp & GSP frags that i'd love to trade off.

If anyone would like to bring frags it really is fine by me. I don't want anyone to feel obligated, and, I can setup a few tables, etc. to facilitate things. So it will not be a problem.

Please post any "have to trade" and "wants" in this thread for others to read.

My personal preference are soft corals both want and have to trade... :) I can always prune what I have. Over the past two months I have cut about 30 frags to people starting their reefs.

Later,
Mark

P.S. Directions and map above... :D

here's what i can potentially bring to the social ...depending on people's interest. i'm interested in anything i don't already have in my tank :p

15x, xenia
5x, button polyps, brown w/ green centers
4x, GSP, nice & green

I'm looking for softies for my 30g and 10g. However, what I have right now isn't frag-ready yet, so I have nothing to trade.

I'm not above shameless begging or monetary donations to your tank, however... :D

I'm in the ramp-up phase of my tank so I don't have frags to offer but am interested in purchasing a few. Particularly interested in zoos and possibly one of jester777's button polyps. Would also consider any other softies that I don't already have. If my son comes along he will be looking to purchase as well. We hope to have frags to swap by the time the summer swap rolls around.

I won't be able to attend this one but would like a run down of what you guys discuss. Hopefully someone will be able to post a what was discussed.

I'm still working on the details for a late summer frag swap. Things are looking promising Hopefully I'll have more info shortly.

I plan on attending. Who needs IMAC when we have NorthCoasts place :-)

I have no frags to trade because my tank just finished cycling(yup...I'm a newbie).

I am interested in starting off with softies. Most notably mushrooms, buttons, and xenia for now.

I should be there! I'll have lots of gsp, a torch coral, and maybe some zoanthids.

Any particular food/drink needed?

Is anyone looking for some liverock? I just took down my 90 gallon, and I have around 130 pounds + of fiji rock. Almost all of it is aptasia free too.

Let me know if you're interested, and I can bring it to the swap.

Looks like I may not make it Saturday. My car club, Central Ohio F-Body, rented Norwalk Dragway on the 9th. I'm running up there to race for the day, staying over night, and the guy that flamed my car, up in Sandusky, is going to pinstripe it for me Saturday afternoon. If we're done in time I will be there since its kind of on the way home. Just depends on how long it takes to stripe the flames. Don't want to rush him. ;)

Was looking forward to meeting some of you and picking up some frags too. Well, hopefully it will work out.

I just finished my GSP frags. If anyone is a fan of GSP, these are a very nice neon green from fiji.

Is anyone interested in some Anthelia? I think I got these ones from Mark back in October...they're huge now. I could make 3 or 4 nice frags of those too.

pyranha
05/05/2003, 07:45 PM
I would be interested in getting some of the Anthelia. How big are the frags and how much would you be wanting for them?

Christopher Marks
05/05/2003, 07:52 PM
I'll try to get at least 6 or more larger stalks on each rock. Some I may not be able to attach to rubble as well. I'm not looking to get much for them...$10 or so. I'll let you decide when you pick one out.

jester777

just an update....

i'm still planning on making it to the meeting although i'm not bringing as much xenia as i traded most of it for this clam :)

not the most colorful, but xenia for a clam seemed like a good trade to me.

i still have a couple xenia, GSP, and button polyps to bring.

see you all sat!

TacoKing - interested in green sinularia

Looking forward to it!

I have GSP (long polyps), kenya tree, light tan finger leather, cabbage leather, some zooanthids, colt coral and dark tan sinularia that can easily be fragged.

Many people offered via emailed, sent PM or posted asking "What to bring?"

First, I plan on providing stromboli, chile and non-alcoholic drinks. I will also have cups, dishes, napkins, utensils, etc.

Second, feel free to bring alcoholic beverage of choice. If you would like to bring snack foods (chips and/or dips), side dish or desert please feel free to post what you plan in this thread. This way we can get a variety and avoid duplicates.

Third, if you plan to swap corals please remember to bring extra containers just in case (I will have a few on hand but not too many). If anyone feel that a holding tank is needed let me know and I can setup an temp. tank.

I do hope to see everyone on Saturday!

Maybe bringing a mushroom rock and we can razor mushrooms off if it if anyone wants them. They are rusty colored red. I can frag the pocillopora but only if someone wants some. I won't cut into it unless someone commits. See you all tomorrow.

If anyone need a tnk for a sump or refugium or whatever I have a 29 or 30 ( I have both but am keeping one for a sump) and a 55 to get rid of. The center brace on the 55 is broke. The LFS said you could get a new one for like $15. If anyone is interested let me know and I could bring them to the meeting.

pyranha
05/10/2003, 08:07 AM
The bad news on replacing a center brace is that the whole frame needs replaced. The good news is that AGA will send you one for about 10 bucks if you call them. I only know this because I had a 55 with a broken brace. Replacing it just takes a tube of silicon and putty knife. AGA has directions available.

tye_c
05/10/2003, 08:15 AM
Thats what I ment by replacing it. I while ago I went to akron and got 2 55's a 30 a 29 and a 20h for $75. I turned one 55 into a refugium. I will probably keep the 30 for a sump, and the 20H will be a seahorse tank(way down the road) for the wife. So I have a 55 and a 29 to get rid of. Any takers?

Christopher Marks
05/10/2003, 12:56 PM
Well, I didn't have much luck with fragging the anthelia. I have a few stalks, but I didn't have time to mount them. I'll bring those still for those interested.

I still have the torch coral coming, two large green star polyp rocks, two or three small gsp frags (fiji green), and the 150lbs of LR for various people.

I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who was able to come to the meeting!

For those of you that weren't able to make it here's what happened:

We all hung out and chatted with each other until about 8, and then everyone went to the kitchen to trade coral frags. For the club name, we decided on Central Ohio Reef Aquarists, and the news letter will be C.O.R.A.L. for Central Ohio Reef Aquarists Letter. The new club website will be located at www.reefaquarists.com, and should be online within a week.

That's about it. Once I get the new site up, I'll post some of my various ideas for the site and get some input from all of you to see what sort of things should be placed on the site.

Geo,

CaptiveCorals (Sean) offered printing service, and singerk (Keith) offered to help with it as well.

We basically need someone to be in charge of collecting content and organizing it. Since we're not collecting any dues (which would cover postage), I could just export the newsletter to PDF format, and anyone who wants the letter can download it and/or print it from the website. At least we could do that initially.

What I've seen in other club newsletters was a copy of the month's calendar, some articles - either written by members, or good articles taken with permission from the internet, and local news. Perhaps one of the local stores would be interested in paying for the cost of mailing the newsletter if we gave them an advertising page?

A great time was had by all. It was really amazing how the basement emptied out like a fire drill the minute somene talked about looking at the frags. LOL

First a huge thanks to Northcoast for his invite and hospitality. Next time we will have to take over some of the food duties individually cause Mark really dug into his own pocket I have to believe and while generous it really is not fair.

Second. we need to come up with some type of waterproof covering for the table and floor area for the frags swaps. No fair getting saltwater all over the place in someone's home. A designated clean up crew at the end would probably be appreciated.

Third. Thanks to Christopher for taking this website thing by the horns and running with it. I really do not think we need to worry about dues or postage especially if we do everything by email. What we need is a email list. I would be willing to maintain a roster of email addresses if the group decides that is what is needed. I know I would like one for myself.

Since we seem to have generated some sustainable enthusiasm for a reef hobbiest group here I personnally want to thank some of the original thinkers like stan (grifs) and northcoast for organizing and pushing it along initially and not letting the concept die of apathy. I am sure there are others however they took so little credit for their efforts I do not know who they are.

I agree with all the posts -- great time last night.

Re: email list. I have the list still and it is current. It seems to me that if we're to have a central list, a central person needs to keep it, and then make it accessible to anyone who needs it. If we start replicating it, then we're likely going to end up with numerous lists that don't jive w/ each other.

I'm happy to continue keeping the main list unless there's a better way someone knows of.

I have a mailing list system that will be placed on the website. Then those who need access to send out newsletters can get the login info from me. This way, people can come to the site and automatically signup and be added to the list when they respond to the verification email.

sounds like I missed a good meeting. I'm glad to see things are coming together. Was there any talk of where/ when the next meeting would be? I don't know about everyone else but I did like the poll idea for getting a meeting together rather than setting a " 2nd tuesday of the month" type thing. Unfortunately it did not work out for me this time. I myself would like to see some sort of "babysitting list" or at least a bank of people that someone watching your tank could call in case of problems. definately post when the website is up and running that will make things a lot easier for all.
