Are skilter filters, the ones that have a skimmer and filter combined a decent filter?

I think they are crap. I had one when I first started this hobby and I have yet to see a worse product.

What size tank are you hoping to run this on? That will help so we can let you know of your options.

Something like a Remora or a BakPak would work for you. Personally, I'd lean towards the BakPak for a handful of almost inane reasons (it is cheaper too), but there isn't a thing wrong with a Remora either.

Maybe a Prism would be fine, but I'd rather spend the few extra $$$ for one of the other two. I just don't like them.

I currently own a BakPak (Reef Ready) for my 10g and I love it. In the begining, it release a good amount of bubbles, but after a week, the bubbles went away. It was good a deal cheaper that the Remora.

I have several that basically just use for quarantine or to cure LR.

For me they work better and more quiet if you close up the venturi and use an airstone instead. The venturi is quite noisy.
