No fair! _I_ want some new frags too! Actually, JP was in the process of looking for some blue reef chromis for me for my first fish in the tank.

Next week, I'll hopefully be getting in some blue ricordia, which is exciting.

I just got a new coral that I'm acclimating in my tank right now. Jason just gave me a colt coral frag, kinda light maroonish. It's all scrunched up right now, but I understand it can get pretty big. The mother colony in Jason's tank is HUGE! It practically takes up a quarter of the top part of the tank.

Actually, the acclimation was easy b/c the salinity was exactly the same, and it was only in a container for 10 min for the drive home. So, 5 min later, after I put some of my own water in the container, I plopped it in the tank, and it's sitting on the sand bed. Jason devised an ingenious way to mount it. He put a large toothpick right through the center of the base in between some branches, and he used a rubberband to create a triangle and keep the toothpick in place. He says in about a week, I can try taking the rubberband and toothpick out.

I would tell everyone about the other new corals I have, but the shipping wasn't the best, and I'm not sure if they're going to make it. If they do, I'll let people know.

I'm really looking for easy-to-care-for corals that grow quickly and propagate well. The colt definitely fits that description. That way, I can trade and share with others.

I had to do some minor surgery on the colt. Apparently, the flow was too strong in my tank, and the colt split where the toothpick was placed. It was in danger of ripping right off, so I took it out and sutured the base to the rock in two places. It's still not the happiest camper, but at least I think it's relatively secure. Anyone know how long colts take to attach themselves?

Hey Minh,
I read in a few different places that colt frags were among the hardest to get to attach and that it takes quite a long time. I wish I had tried that suture trick on mine. Supposedly that is the most effective way to get them to attach. If I had done that maybe I wouldn't have lost mine into the great macro algea forest in the back of my tank. I still havent found it  I'm just hoping to see it growing up over something someday but, at this point it might be a lost cause.

by the way, I sent you e-mail today.

Hey Jason, any thoughts on getting Ryan a colt frag too?

Hi Ryan,

I have a smaller frag that broke-off of a larger frag that I am trying to attach to give to a relative. Let me know if you are interested and we can work out plans to get it to you. Otherwise, I probably woun't be fragging from the mother piece for a while, it's really a messy ordeal, and seems to put a lot of stress on the colt and tank.

Later,
Jason

Jason,
That would be great! Thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm right down the road from you, so we can probably get together any time. I'll PM you my phone number, you can give me a call when ever.

Thanks again,
