Just want to say Hi to everyone. I'm new to reef, old with FW Discus. Does anyone know where I can get quality Live Rocks and Sand with reasonable price? I thinking about starting out with a 20gal w/ PC lighting. Hoping to meet you guys someday.

Thanks....

JC

You could try Jeffs exotic fish (http://www.exoticfish.com/) for live rock and sand. Its hit and miss for fish, sometimes great, sometimes not so great as he is a wholesaler also. Reef collection in HB is also a good spot to hit when he gets his stuff in. Tongs is also in HB and always has a lot of stuff. Where at in Lakewood are you located? Another thing to look into is any of the local fish clubs like MASLAC (http://www.maslac.org) or SCMAS (http://www.scmas.com) If I can offer any advice is read, Read, READ !!!! Then ask questions and read some more. It will save you tons of $$$ in the long run.

I'm over by ElDorado park. On the sand, I wouldn't buy all live sand, to expensive. Try to find Southdown, one bag should do for your 20gal, and get a few cups of live sand from locals to seed it. Also, if you get your LR in with the new sand, it will seed it also.

RedTurq - welcome, I'm located in Downey, near the 105/605 interchange. Like Ken suggested, try getting some southdown first and then add a little live sand or mooch a cup of sand from a fellow reefer with a well-established system. Anything I can help you with, let me know. Also, there are plenty of very helpful SoCal reefers here that will be more than happy to help, once you make your rounds and meet people. Check out www.scmas.com, meetings are held every 3rd friday of the month in Santa Ana, a good place to start meeting fellow fish geeks!
