I live in So Cal and have been to Eco System Aquariums office and seen their tanks first hand. They are very impressive! I just recently started a 10 gal refugium for my new 90 gal reef tank, (total system volume 125 gal) and decided to give the mud a try. It's only been in there for about 3 weeks and caulerpa is illegal to posess in Cal so I'm trying different types of macroalgae, (if anyone in So Cal has any caulerpa they want to get rid of, I'll gladly take it off their hands!) I understand nothing else works quite as well. Anyway, it will be some time before I will have any real reportable results but I"ll let you know.

Have used Ecosystems mud and have had excellent results. If you can believe it, the system has accomplished everything they claim for the 6 months I have had it. Am going to try out Kent Marine Biosediment in the next few days to see if it works as well. By the way I use Red Gracillaria that I rubber band to small pieces of live rock.

This site shows a very impressive 300G tank run using the Ecosystem approach. Unfortunately, all of the text is in German:

Does anyone use additional filtering for better water clarity? I know the purpose of the ecosysetm isn't to polish water, but I would like o clear it up on occasion.
Thanks
Sam

besides using miracle mud, I also filter the water over active carbon every month, before water change, this keeps the water clear.
