Hi,
Does anyone have lights in which the bulbs are not protected by anything between them and the water? I'm making a canopy for a freshwater cichlid tank. I'd have 55W PC bulbs 6" above the water line. Everything is on a GFCI outlet.

Thanks

Just as long as there is no splashing (IE a hang on power filter or alot of surface action from the return) I dont see a problem with it. At the moment in my new hood none of the lights have anything between them and the water. Just make sure you have waterproof endcaps and tight clips for the bulbs..

If you are running 55w pc bulbs, there is no problem with that. However, I would recommend putting the bulbs closer to the water as you will lose a lot of intensity at that distance. By placing the bulbs a couple inches closer to the water, you will be able to get the most light possible into the tank.
