NOt much. 2 30w tubes won't get you far at all. They would be good for lighting a refugium though

Know anything about the ballasts that are in there? Could those 2 30w tubes be overdriven by those ballasts? Prety damn bright and hot!

I don't know about the ballasts but i have a this dual light strip on my 65gal reef along with 220watts of pc lighting. I use the strip with 2 30w actinics because i think it gives the tank a more pleasing color along with 4 55w daylight PC's:mixed:

How much does the PC lighting cost? I guess this light enables you to keep anything from clams to even hard corals?

Not really. I must place clams and SPS corals high on the rocks so they can get the most out of this lighting. This makes it difficult to place many light demanding corals in my reef. A good PC unit such as Custom sea life or Hamilton can run between $400-$500. Lower end models such as JBJ or hellios range from $200-$300 for comparable lighting. You could have 10 PC bulbs over a tank and not have growth like you would with intense metal halides. If your going to spend the $$$$ for lighting go with MH's wth PC or Vho actinic (blue) bulbs.

Thanks. I guess more bang for the buck= metal halide! I guess in the end it probably ends up costing you the same in electricity anyways. What halide set up would you do on a 50 gallon (36")?
I was thinking maybe two 250w bulbs. Even cheaper would be to set up one 400w bulb. Have you heard of anyone doing this?

I think 2 250's would be awesome----you could probably even use 175's.

BTW: I am selling a 36" deluxe pc light if you are interested (selling forum)

Im going to ask arround about maybe using one centered 400watt metal halide. This would be a cheaper option I think. It could probably allow me to keep a wider varriety, place the more demanding specimens right under and the less demanding ones on the edges. Does that sound fesable? I would combine it with 1 or 2 overdriven atinics.
