So Cal Frag Swap April 26 in Encino - Everyone is Welcome

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to consolidate the multiple threads in different areas to just one for the April 26th Frag Swap.

Hopefully this will make it easier to answer all the questions.

For those unsure of Encino, it's in the Valley where the 101 and 405 cross. I am about 20 min North of LAX on the 405 for those coming from Orange County.

Anyone interested in reefs is welcome. This swap is not affiliated, or sponsored by any particular group. You don't have to bring frags to attend. Bring a question, Bring a Smile, Bring a Beer and come meet the other So Cal reefers for a relaxing afternoon of tall fish tales.

I have a large yard, with two outdoor prop systems. So as long as we don't have over 250 people we should be okay.

There has been an interest by some to put together some type of a potluck meal. I have a BBQ, and a kitchen I am all for it.

My home is not for children, so please bring only friends and frags.

I could definitely use some extra tables and chairs. Anyone who can help please let me know.

Anyone with thoughts of things that could make this afternoon better please speak up....

For those who cruise other reef boards, and other user groups, please post this event and then direct them to this thread so all questions can be answered in one place.

My only suggestion would be not to post your name and address on a public board. Have people PM or email you. You've done a pretty good job of describing your various systems in public threads, I'd hate to have someone who just views the thread be able to take advantage (what can I say, I'm a cop...).

At least with the email/PM route, you know who has received the address...

Well the nice things about tanks, is they don't mind being wet inside and out. So far no issues. Corals looked good when I checked on them earlier.

really?? thats the first i've heard of it. i love wine but have never seen good wine come with screw tops. the reason being, how can you age wine if it doesn't allow for air exchange through the cork? :confused:

Some people have asked what the zoos look like. Here is a pic of the green zoos. I have about 3 bunches of them to trade for. Each bunch has about 15-20 polyps on it.

Potluck or munchies, all is fine with me. The backyard is well lit so people can stay and chat and relax and eat as late as they like. There is plenty of sump space to keep frags nice and warm.

I was just trying to get an estimate as to numbers of mouths, so that drinks and stuff could be arranged adequately.

Knot-hard - I have you down for the yellow leather and the green torch. I can't add any zoo's in my tank, because my rabbitfish seems to like them. First it was the regal angel now the rabbitfish, overall, my entire zoo population is wiped-out. I might take some ricordeas, but not too big into them, but we'll negotiate something out.

Cmagallon - if knot-hard doesn't want the torch it's yours, but I gotta give him first priority.

Hey All,

So far over 25 people have RSVP'd. But I see alot of people chatting on the threads that haven't emailed me for directions.

Tommorrow, (Weds) I will be sending out an email to everyone who as RSVP'd so far listing what Potluck Items they wish to bring, and at that point we should know what Potluck / Beverage items we are short on.

I have received many emails from people coming with nothing to trade, but with cash to spend. So for those with xtra items, not spoken for in advance it seems like there will be plenty of people interested in them.

If you know people thinking / planning on going who are just slow to speak up for directions, give them a push. (Everyone should email Carlos, and roust his ***)

I have an anemone that just isn't doing so well in my tank. It's healthy now as I just bought it 2 weeks ago at Mark's but it will not attach to rock or sand. It was, no surprise here, called a Sebae anemone (i.e. any anemone the LFS can't really identify - nothing against Mark here everyone seems to do this). I think it is Heteractis malu (aka delicate anemone) or perhaps H. crispa (although it doesn't have long tentacles). Anyhow it's available for trade (any cukes, softies or LPS) or free to a good home, if no trades.

I got some macro algae if you are interested. I'm not going to the swap though. I have the type that doesn't attach to rocks and it absorb nutrients from the water really well. I also got some caulpera that grows like weed in my tanks. I forgot what it is called. PM if interested.

I recently picked up a real nice dark dark blue coral beauty for $25. Thought he could get along with another dwarf angel...OOPS. He's completley beating my little flame angel up but leaves everyone else along. Should have listened to the posts! I can bring him today if anyone is interested.

Also a bunch of mushrooms that I'm not sure if anyone will want. There yellow/tan with a iridescent green tint under the right lighting. Also a metallic blue discosoma and some real florescent GSP. I can make more mushy frags this morning if anyone is interested.

I'm definately looking for some colorful zoos, red xenia and pretty much anything else you guys bring for some dough or trades.

Any chaeto donations would be greatly appreciated! Take got nuked and my refugium is an empty waste land. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

BTW the refractometers are the real deal, really easy to use and it feels very sturdy.

It was so big and I was in a good mood, so I decided to share and instantly started fragging it out. About a half hour later, she asked for it back and said it was for someone else.... I offered it back to her, and she said, "na uh, I gave you a big piece, thats not it!"

Just wanted to thank everyone that I traded with. I picked up a few nice Milli's which is what I was set out to get today. Wilbur's looks extremely killer. It's glowing super purple and pink already.

Want to thank David B for having us over. That is one sweet system he's got going. Makes me want to convert a swimming pool to a reef system. :)

Hope everyone got what they wanted, and hope what they got doubles in size within a few weeks. :D

Someone was kind enough to leave several bags of rock rubble in one of the sumps.

Someone left a pair of keys with a "Curious George" Key ring.

Someone left me a beautiful bright red Birdsnest..... Oh wait that was the piece I wanted that Carlos took back home with him... BASTARD!!!!

Someone left a blue purse.... No wallet, but lots of make-up articles

Someone left a brown sweater, not my size but the dogs might like sleeping on it, it looks soft.

Whoever fragged the Orange Digitata and mounted it on the back of the tortoises... That wasn't nice (Just kidding no one messed with the tortoises.)

Thanks everyone who came, there was a plethora of food, frags and people. I took some photos and will post them tomorrow evening.

I think it was a great success, if we want to do it again in a couple of months, I would be more than happy to offer my house and yard again. Everybody was great.... Except for Carlos !!!!!

I just wanted to keep the lovefest going. I was really pumped about the feeling of trading with reefers rather than buying wild stuff that is damaging our natural reefs. It was very cool meeting all the people who post here on RC. Everyone was extremely nice and also very generous. My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to pick up one of those refractometers.
