WOW a place for Light questions...

Anyway... I just bought two Adanve E-Ballasts IMH-175-C-LF (http://www.advancetransformer.com/l...EH-5000-R01.pdf) transformers and well I'll be honest I'm a Real http://www.superstallions.com/forum/images/smiles/new_newbie.gif when it come to Lighting as my old tank was FOWLR so I didn't need much light..

Here goes..
I always thought a MH bulb looked like:

Pic A

Well when I got the shipment of my ballasts, the seller also included 4 bulbs "used Ushio 10K bulbs and 6500K bulbs" they look like this:

Pic B

In the thread the seller wrote
They will light any 150 or 175 watt bulb including 150 watt HQI bulbs (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=172848)

My question would be what bulbs should I use Pic A or Pic B? Also what is a "HQI" bulb that was noted above..?

At this time all I have it the ballasts with NO sockets.. What is the Best route to go as far as bulb goes? Of course it has to be compatible with my existing ballast...

TIA,
Andre S.

That ballast I believe can light both of the bulbs pictured. The first bulb is most likely the single ended 175 watt 6500k iwasaki. The second is most likely the 150 watt 10000k double ended hqi ushio bulb. The Ushio bulb will give you a much more crisp white look than the 6500k bulb. The 6500k bulb will have a yellow tint to it. It is highly recomended that you use actinic lighting with the second. The ushio will need uv blocking glass installed somewhere above the the tank (preferably at the bottom of the reflecter). The 6500k bulb is already surounded by the said glass. The hqi 10000k bulbs are said to emit more light than the single ended 6500k bulbs at the same wattages but the best growth will come from the 6500k bulbs. Although the 6500k bulbs emit the most lumens for all the single ended bulbs used in this hobby. For the reflectors for both bulbs i would go with either the reef optix II for the 6500k and the reef optix III for the the 10000k both made by sunlight supply. It is all your choice(I prefer the 6500k bulbs but that is all i've ever used so i am biased)
