I hear that mushrooms are low light corals. Does that refer to all mushrooms or just a few of them? What's considered low light? If it depends on the mushrooms, which ones are considered low, medium, and high?

Thanks,

its true mushrooms do not need strong light but they require decent lighting to survive. They are photosynthetic, some more than others, knowing the size of your tank and what kind of lighting you plan to use would be of help.

Oops, sorry.

My tank is a 30 G tall tank. My lighting is only 36w of pc. If I need more, I will try to get 2x55w of pc and use the 36w for something else.

Thanks,

2 55 watt compacts would be better in case you want to keep other coral such as fingers, or lps.

I had a shrrom at the top of a 55G with 500W of Metal Halide. It never came out. I put it at the bottom in the shate and now the shroom is doing good.

Just my experience.

I have a 29 gal and 17 gal rubber maid container full of mushrooms.

Blues, Navy, Reds, Greens, Browns, Striped, Melon, Pimpled and they all are under regualer flourseant lighting. They multiply, alot.

These shrooms blossom to 3 -4 inches in size -

Now I also have a 20 gal long that I put some shrooms in and they just exist because of the power compact 55w. They grow very slowly if at all -

Seahorsie, are you saying that 55w pc is too much light for the mushrooms? Yours do much better under normal output flourseant lighting?

Yes - my mushrooms do better is just flourseant lighting.

I have over 15 mother colonies.
I have made over a dozen mixed mushroom rocks for my local pet shop. The last one I made had 15+ mushrooms on it ranging from 2-3 inches to babies.

Do mushrooms require actinic lighting?
