Now that we're coming into summer, this is a worthy thread to revive:

Thanks to Jim Hobbs I am using two of the Ranco controllers on my reef, they work great. It allows you to plug a fan or heater into it (single stage model) or both (dual stage model) and it will kick them on and off at a specified temperature. Very nice to not have fans and heaters fighting each other.

One of the nicer things about these controllers {other than the 45.00$ price!}, is the non-metalic thermister[sensor]...Nothing to corrode in the tank...Best regards...jim

Hey Jim,

its good to be in the hvac buisness.
I use a digital themostat to control my tank.
I did have to silicone the thermocouple wire. also refrigeration solenoid valves and elect float switches work great for auto top off systems.
