I understand that there is a reef tour coming up this month as well as a talk by Steve Tyree. If you are interested in this, you might want to make sure you contact somebody in the IMAS and get the details from them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...so I am a slacker. ;) Thanks for the reminder.

Here is the initial scoop (check www.idahoreefs.org for the latest info).

Note, our usual meeting (second Thursday of the month) IS CANCELLED this month...we'll meet on th 19th instead.

LOCAL MARINE AQUARIUM CLUB FIRST ANNUAL TANK TOUR

The Idaho Marine Aquarium Society will be presenting its first Annual Tank Tour on Saturday, April 19th. The Tank Tour is free and open to all members of the public. This is the public’s opportunity to see the valley’s most stunning and spectacular salt water fish and salt water coral reef tanks.

The meeting will start at 10:00 AM at Lee Read Jewelers in Meridian where Larry Read has graciously offered to discuss reefkeeping in general and his 1200 gallon aquarium. A map of local open houses having tanks on display will be distributed at Lee Read’s.

At each of these open houses, information regarding a particular element of the hobby will be discussed, including: corals, fish, lighting, filtration, gadgets, chemical additives, etc…everything you need to know to join the hobby.

The Tank Tour will end with a meeting sponsored by the Idaho Marine Aquarium Society. At this meeting, Mr. Steve Tyree will be putting on a presentation. At the meeting we will also have a raffle for coral frags and donated merchandise. Member, non-members and the public in general are welcomed to attend the tour. Mr. Tyree’s presentation is free for members and may (or may not) require an attendance fee for non-members. More details regarding this will be provided on the website and on our free listserv (sign up via www.idahoreefs.org).

At the meeting, members of the club will be available to serve as mentors for new hobbyists and those wanting to learn more about the hobby.

IMASers,

Tank Tour Update

General: This is a great way to get any of your interested friends
into the hobby. Invite them to take the tour with you. Members and non-members are welcome to attend the tour at no charge. If you haven't paid your dues, now is the time to do so. Only members will be able to participate in the raffle but non-members may attend Steve's talk for $5.00. Membership options listed below.

Beginning Location: Lee Read Jeweler's at 10 AM sharp. Everyone will receive maps of the tour locations at that time. We even have a salt water pond on the tour agenda.

Ending Time: 1:30 PM. The ending time has been bumped up 1/2 hour to accommodate scheduling issues.

Steve Tyree Talk and Raffle: We're going to have it at Pixel Light,
our normal location. This is to start at 2 PM. This should give
everyone time to lock down their tour locations and get to the tour. Actual talk will be about 2:15 to 2:25 but this will give us time before hand to sell raffle tickets and mill around. Raffle tickets will also be sold at the end of Steve's talk. I'll need to whisk Steve away to the airport at 3:45.

Raffle: We have several hundred dollars of raffle items so bring some $ for the raffle.

Other things needed:

Lawn chairs. There's no way to inform those newby's plannning to attend to bring chairs to this event and we may be short on chairs so we're asking members to bring lawn chairs to the event.

Projector Screen. We have a projector but no screen. If anyone has a screen please drop me an e-mail: kelly@maclife.com.

Membership/Talk options:

1) Buy a membership card that will take you through the summer and allow you to attend the talk and raffle: $10.00
