Well it turns out my Maxima was infested with many of the small conical snails. I removed most of them but his bysal gland is no longer attached and the mantle is retracted. Its been retracted for over a week now. After I removed the snails the mantle extended a bit further but not much.
How do I know if I should remove him or not?

Thanks

Well, I'd not be in a hurry to take out the clam. I presume that you're worried about fouling the tank with the dead clam; I would leave it in until you're sure it's dead. One way to tell is that your tank scavengers will be all over it.

How big is your tank, and how big is the clam? It might not be a concern if the tank is big and the clam is small. A large tank can usually handle a small animal dying.

How did it turn out? Is the clam still alive?
