As many of you already know, Eric Borneman will be visiting us on April 12th. The Tampa Bay Aquarium Society (TBAS) is sponsoring Eric to come to town (read: they're footing the bill so BIG THANX TO TBAS!). They have asked the Tampa Bay Reef Club to help work out the details of the event as well as help get the word out. They have posted a website with information (including the time and location) here: http://mikejacobs.50megs.com/EricBorneman.html . There is also a PDF available for download if anyone wants to print out a flyer. If you've got a fish store nearby that doesn't have one posted, please ask them to post one!

Eric and I spent some time discussing what an appropriate topic would be that would keep both beginner and advanced aquarists interested. He sent me a summary of the topic that we decided on:

"Keeping Corals Alive"

"A broad discussion of many aspects of coral and coral reefs, and what it takes to keep these beautiful animals alive and thriving. Discusses what real coral reef conditions are like, how coral reefs maintain high diversity, feeding the reef and corals, energy allocation (the roles of light and food), a history of coral husbandry (Berlin, Jaubert, ATS, etc.), new system designs, survivability issues, collection locations, competititon, diseases, bleaching, pest species, algae, bacteria, and the role of the aquarium trade in both conservation and our impact to wild communities, together with a plethora of beautiful photos. "

In addition to Erics presentation, we will be holding an auction and a statewide frag swap with the North Florida Marine Aquarium Society (NFMAS) and the Orlando Reef Caretakers Association (ORCA).

The auction:
We would like to have any items (livestock or equipment) that will be auctioned on display before Erics presentation. This will give everyone a chance to see what will be auctioned up close. With an auditorium full of people, it will be impossible for everyone to see a 1" frag during the auction. Eric's presentation will be starting at 11:00am. I would like for anyone auctioning something to try and have it there by 10am. This way everyone will have plenty of time to see what's there.

The frag swap:
We have not worked out the details of how this will be organized yet. If anyone has any ideas, please let us know. A good starting point might be for anyone who is bringing stuff to swap to post it up on Reef Central. If there's something in particular that you're looking for, post that too!
