We seem to use every kind of lighting (other than incandescent and candles ) to light our reefs has anyone ever tried Halogen lighting?

Just curious

Halogen is the wrong spectrum and is very inefficient. It doesn't work very well, but it will suffice if that is all you have. You would be wise to stay away from it.

I am not using halogen on my tank. I just got back from the local HD lighting area and was curious if it would work.

No. It won't work. It's a waste of energy, money and time to set it up.

Save $300 and buy yourself a MH system. It's not that expensive. :)

O.K. let me say this once I do not use nor do I have plans in the futre to use halogen lighting on my reef.

That said, I wanted to know if anyone had used it because it seemed like pretty intense lighting.

if the spectrum is wrong then that would explain why it isn't commonly used.

thanks

I've used halogen lights on a refugium and it worked fine but it got too hot.

I did a search on reefs.org and found a post where someone claims to have had halogen lights (2x150w) on his tank for 3 years. he also supplemented with vho. Although his tank growth was OK he says he will set up his next tank with MH.

I sent him an email but have yet to hear back.
