Hi Nathan, sorry I musta missed the post where this was a question cuz I heard this somewhere. Can't remember if ALS told me when I ordered mine, or maybe I read it somewhere. So far I really like mine, 175w over a 29g tank. Although, I think maybe I coulda gone with a 250w and been ok! :D

I just got off the phone with ALS and I asked them where the bulbs are made. They said Japan.

Just thought you might like to know... :)

Has any body tried the sunburst 250W?

I'm thinking about replacing my new 65K Iwasaki

Is the 12K Iwasaki blue so that I don't have to use actinic for supplimenation?

Any picture?

The lowest price I could find was $89 at the Marine Depot.

I replaced an iwasaki with a 250 watt sunburst. It's not blue, it's purple. I'd compare it to an equal mix of daylight and actinic flourescents. You probably would not want to add actinics.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess this bulb will make your corals florescence as well.

Are they still having quality problem w/ this bulbs. I.E. it will soon fail on you.

They are bluish purple enough so that you would not need actinic supplementation. I love their color, but compared to a 6500K, they are considerably dimmer, and the bulb itself is not as high quality as an Iwasaki. Having said that, I use the 12KK, and just can't get enough of that color.

Wow, talk about bringing up the past (this thread is one year and one day old! Nice!)

I've never tried the 250W version. You may find the 12K to be too blue for your liking, especially coming from the 6.5K view. I'd suggest the 10K Ushio which doesn't need actinics either IMO.
