Just got my 125 up after much nervous comtemplation about moving a 18 month old 50 gallon reef into it! it looks awesome!

Everything went great, no losses at all. You can check out the pics here:

Sweet, Dave. Can we see what the canopy looks like opened? An inside view? Nice woodworking. What kind of skimmer is that? What do you use for a return pump?
Man, I gotta get a 6 foot tank.
Very nice.

Thanks Larry,

I'll be taking more pics in the next few days so I'll post some of the hood (inside) and also some close ups of the stand and corals. The skimmer is an M.T.C. Power-Pro by Marine Technical Concepts.

My return pump is a Dolphin SS1200 (not the titanium version, yet). I'd probably go with an SS800 next time as this pump can really move some water. I only have 1 overflow so the 1200 may be too much. I've split the return to 2 lines (1 high in a corner and the other low blowing across the back bottom of the glass).

Everything is super healthy. Can you believe all those corals were in a 50 breeder, they are doing much better with the additional space!

Dave,

Tried to get to the site and it says "sorry this page exceeded it's bandwidth for the month"

Fox,

Yeah, I talked to mindspring today, apparently all the uploading and recent viewing/downloading of the new pics has consumed my monthly bandwidth. I doubled my bandwidth today so the site should be back online either later today or tomorrow morning.

I'll let you know when it's up again.

Thanks,

Dave

Fox,

Thanks, I'd love to help yuo with your woodworking! Don't think the wife and kids will let me go for the 6 weeks it'd take though.

Shroomboy,

I took the spray bar out because it was taking up too much room at the back of the tank. I couldn't get my rockwork right so I just took it out and ran 2 lines, 1 at the top corner opposite the overflow pointed at the front center glass, 1 at the bottom on the same corner of the overflow pointed directly accross the back bottom of the tank. it waorks actually better than the spraybar.

Thanks Again,

Dave

Dave,

Nice work on the stand & canopy. Want to come up here to Charlottesville and help me build a new canopy for my 180?

Looks great Dave! I couldn't find the spray bar in the full tank shots after setup. Did you pull it out?

Dave,
How do you like your MTC skimmer? Would you recommend a Power-Pro? Thanks.

Wow!! nice pics and nice stand.

I guess you have a great cooling fan on the right side. (I saw you have to have it weighted down to keep it from blowing off ;)) Have fun with the added space.

Hi Dave, I like the arrangement. Cool to see something more modest than the verticle wall. If you were going to have a good mix of fish/corals your arrangement would allow for more attention to be directed towards the fish. Are you going to keep it that way or were you planning on getting more rock? Just curious.... I have a mix but my rockwork is looking more and more like a wall everyday. ;)

JFWIW I had my strip like you and over time it received some corrosion from sw, form humidity from sump. And caught fire. the wiring was inspected in my wall the outlet ect it wasn't that, put a knew one in strip and outlet and checked the box and it was well under load but looked at some of the plugs and they had slight corrosion, and that is just as bad as having a lose wire which a GFI may not detect and it can overheat. Just some to hought it may never happen to you but it does happen. The strip probaly got some corrosion inside as well. This was checked by 2 EE.

What steps did you take in moving your 50 into a 125? I just moved my 55 into a 100 gallon and used the 55 as a sump. It was a real production and I'm sure I'm in for some tough water conditions initially, lots of water changes...

Nice tank, I also want to build a DIY canopy and stand. I, however, have no woodworking experience. I am enlisting a friend tohelp me with the project when the time comes. You did a beautiful job :)

DaveL,
Is that a green colt in the center or a tree of some sort? Just curious, I have a small 2" frag wishin' to be real big soon.
