Hi Dr. Ron.

Can you give me an example of food that has a low nutrient value?

Many thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

I had an number of foods analyzed and those data are here. (http://www.animalnetwork.com/fish/data/foods.asp)

Probably the most commonly used low quality food is frozen brine shrimp. If you look at the tables in the article above, you will see it has far lower nutrient quality than, say, Golden Pearls.

:D

Dr Ron,

The nutrional quality of frozen brine shrimp is so low I'd be concerned about the health of my fish if it were the primary diet, even if fed in vast quantities. Are you saying large quantities will overcome it's nutritional deficiences ?

What nutritional defiencies? It has all the necessary foods, just in low concentration... So, fed a little of it, a lot of times per day.

I am saying that this may be the only low nutrition food we have available. By the by, With occasional small supplements of other things, I have fed my fish on this pretty much exclusively for several years. :D
