Hi,

I have two spare Dupla 150W 10.000 HQI laying around that I don't use. I thought about starting a small 20G Hexa tank, and use one of the spare HQI's. No skimmer or additives, just 2 small powerheads, an overflow and plenty of liverocks. Maybe a DSB too.

As I'm mostly into polyps, softies and critters/cleanup crew, theres will only be one maybe two fish in the tank. My question is:

Will 150W be too much for such a little tank? I've seen Lunchbuckets 20G tank, with a 400W hqi + PC actinic, but I think thats overkill. Will 150W be too much, or should I switch to a 70W bulp?

Thank you in advance.

you should be fine its a deeper tank hell you could fit the 2nd 150 on ther eif you wanted. but a good idea would be to get 1 or 2 13 watt atinic pc's also,Chris

To Chris:

We unfortunely dont have PC's in Denmark. Also a PC wouldnt fit above the tank. It would look stupid.

To Lunchbucket:

I know. But as I wrote in my post, I think its overkill.

I'm currently in the process of designing a 20 gal. tank system. My plan is to use a 150 watt 50kk Iwasaki bulb along with 2 VHO's. Will be able to grow anything, at least thats the plan.

overkill NO. why would it be? heck it would keep anything you wanted in there. you actually think that a 150 is overkill....400w MAYBE...but not 150

To Lunchbucket:

Isnt 150W too much for softies and polyps only?

400w ISN'T too much. you just have to make sure you acclimate them correctly!!!

I think your 150 would be fine since you seem to like a lower light level.

I have a 250W on my 15 gallon and I've grown used to it. Sometimes I even think it is too dim, but my corals are doing fine under it.

Okay, okay, we can end this right now. I have the final answer:

You can just send them to me.

I hope this helps everyone in their quest for aquatic knowledge.
