Hey Guys,
I went over at Victors (Reef Collections) and he has a Nautilus Brand salt which is actually the same company as Instant Ocean for $19.99. It's good for 150g. I will find out tomorrow if the quality is the same when i mix some salt tomorrow. Otherwise, you better hurry 'cuz he doesn't have many boxes left.

Huntington Beach, right behind Golden West JC, on Gothard and Center. Don't know the exact address. Do a search for the address on RC.

Well Jason, from the batch i made using a 45g trash can to mix the Nautilus brand salt. Looking into the bag, the salt was coarser than the other salt brands, however it disolved pretty quickly. I let my mix sit for 2 days with a small powerhead and 2 extra heaters to get it to the tanks temp. I didn't test the mix other than the salinity, so i can't comment on any phosphate or particulates that might be in the water that can trigger algae blooms.
It's been 2 weeks since I did my water change without ill effects so I assume the mix was fine. I didn't notice any increase in algae blooms and any spikes in the pH. I don't test my nitrates and amonia, so i can't comment. To sum it all up, i didn't notice anything wrong with the brand, i think it did what it needed to do which was replenish the tank with new water and dilute the impurities prior to water change. Any questions, let me know. It seemed like a good deal for salt.

i've never had good luck with salt mixes. everytime i used it i always had a minor bout of skin sloughing off my acro's. i mixed and aerated for 2-3days prior to doing the waterchange, but my corals didn't like it.
going forward, i will use nothing but nsw.
anyone interested in a 3/4 tub of IO salt for cheap?

I've used nothing but IO salt. I tend to mix mine for weeks\months rather then days tho. I'm a little leary of the Catalina water sold at some of the LFS. I've noticed huge changes in SG. Do we really know the guy at the LFS isn't throwing the garden hose and bags of Coralife saltmix in the Catalina storage container?
