Brown Hair Algae

Could anyone suggest to me why brown hair algae would only grow on the glass of my tank (as opposed to the LR or LS) ??

Do you clean your glass?
And do you have any snails, hermits or emerald crabs, they would eat the hair algae off the LR/LS and places they could reach.

I have the same problem, only on my glass. I want to add to Patty's queston: When I clean my glass, and the hair algae goes spiralling into the water column, will it re-seed itself somewhere else, or will it die? (do I need to syphon it out completely)
