Subject says it all. I am starting a 10 gallon and have a couple extra 175watt halides. Just wondering if yall think it would be to much.
Thanks

On a hood, it will be fine except for the heat. If you use it as a pendant, and adding a small fan to vent across the water surface, you should have no problems.

Thanks
I am going to use a pendant so I thought it would be ok. Just wanted a second opinion.

I've got a 175 6500K on my 10g. And have 2 Actinics too
I've got an enclosed hood, so need 2 fans. Which make sfor a lot of evaporation. I'd like to get a ronco temperature controller to turn off my fans when its not too hot, and turn on the heater when it gets too cold.

I grow everything; SPS, hammer, galaxy, xenia, fungia, mushroms polyps etc.

Good luck.

I read that you are considering putting 175 watts of light on your 10 gallon tank and my eyes went like this :eek1:. My feeling is that it is a little excessive. I have a 15 gallon tank and it is doing great with 96 Watts which is high. But I am able to keep Maxima Clams and really nice corals. The other thing to consider is that you will be losing about 1/2-1 gallon of water a day due to evaporation.

175W aint too much. Lotsa people do it... Or 150. My growth went up when I switched up from 64W

It might be excessive I have a 2.5 gallon jug I use for top off. I drip it in one drop every 2 seconds. It lasts about a week. that jug sittin atop my hood dont look so pretty though. Maybe I'll knit a cozy for it?

Not excessive at all. I have 175 watt +55watt actinic over my 15 gallons. No longer just keeping clams and corals alive, they are thriving with explosive growth and stunning color.

I have no heat problems (MH is a pendant) and my evaporation is not bad at all. A steady IV drip sees that the SG never changes.

I have 250w MH and 92w pc's on my 10g tank using a hood. Heat is not a problem with the use of 2 fans wired in series(quieter this way).

My 250W on my 15 is doing fine. I lose about a gallon every 4 days. I have an auto-topoff that takes care of that for me. As for heat, it's okay. Sometimes worrisome though.

Hey Lunchbucket,

How do you like your Dual temperature controller? and how much was it?
I assume dual temperature means you can control 2 different devices at different temperatures right?

it is GREAT!!! i COULDN'T have my nano w/ out it w/ my 400w MH. i could run fans all day but that would evap even more than i have now :(

try www.diyreef.com they have them cheaper. i got mine from aqautic eco systems.

yep the dual allows you to have 2 heaters, 2 fans/chillers, or 1 fan and one heater. 2 seperate controls.

great piece of equipment.
