I hear people talking about them all the time. But I never could figure out what exactly zoanthids are :( Can anyone explain?

Thanks,

Ever hear of polyps? Zoanthid is just the 'technical' term for what many people simply call polyps.

But I thought it was zooanthids? And how come there are two "zoanthid" forums?

zoanthids and parazoanthids are both called "zoos" by hobbyists.

Oh I see where the confusion and use of both names come in...

These animals are under the order Zooanthidae but others call this order Zoanthidea. It seems that Zoanthidea is more common and more likely to be correct.

It is indeed zoanthidae with a single 'o'.

Heres 2 dumb questions. Are zoos low light corals? Are they rare?

I wouldn't call them rare. Well, maybe some strains are. They will do well under most lighting conditions, if we are talking about common types of reef lighting that is.
