Formaldehyde

Several folks in the Killiefish and Discus breeding communities use 37% formaldehyde in small doses (3 drops per 5G) to kill planaria.

What would something like this do to the other species of inverts and beneficial bacteria in our reef tanks?

JT,

The bacteria in the system would eat so fast you couldn't see any effect at all. At that dosage it would simply be a minor food source to our tanks.
