I know that I have probably been beating the DSB issue to death here, but I have another question.

If instead of removing the CC, I just add sand, is this OK, and if so would I mix it with the CC or just pour it on top.

Hi Paul,

No, sorry, you have to get rid of the crushed coral. If you add the sand on top, the crushed coral will eventually be worked up through the sand to end up on top, and in the process it will trash the animals in the sediment.

This movement is a general property of unconsolidated sediments. If there is any movement of the sediments (and there is in our tanks) then smaller particles work their way under the larger ones and "float" them to the top.
