I need to setup a new tank. I have a 20 gallon long acrylic tank sitting in the garage that would be perfect. :) What I thought would be best is to drill the back glass 1" and have 3/4" return. The sump will be a 10 gallon tank, that would house a skimmer and other gear.

Do you think the size hole I want to drill would be the best size? If not, any suggestions for better results? I would prefer drill ing the back of the tank, not the bottom. Good or bad idea IYO?

Thank you for your time!

from experience I would say drill a hole for a 1" bulkhead at one end for your overflow, and a 1" hole at the other for a 3/4" bulkhead at the other end for your return

from experience I would say drill a 1.25" to 1.5" hole for a 1" bulkhead at one end for your overflow, and a 1" hole at the other for a 3/4" bulkhead at the other end for your return
