I recently bought a "red and black cucumber" hoping that it will be a sand cleaner and stirrer. Do you recommend this one (I know, vague description, but this is what I have seen them called. It is about 7 inches long and an inch wide now)? What cucumbers do you recommend and why?

Thanks!

Scott

Scott,

If it is relatively smooth with pink on the bottom and black on the top, it probably is Holothuria edulis, and is definitely a good one to have.

Really most any of the bottom moppers (couple of hundred possible species) will be fine for the task. Generally stay away from vividly marked ones and you will probably never see the bad side of cukes.

Choose one whose size seems to fit, and you will have a long-lived useful, if decidedly unpretty, animal for your system.

That fits its description! Thanks for the reply!
