I used an Azoo mini filter. Made a small chamber with diffuser plates at either side with a 1/16" thick sponge at either side too. I have to shave down the impeller on the pump to slow the pull of the pump. It is only for a 10 gal so I guess it shall work.

Wow! That's a great idea!

You should sell that to phosban or rowaphos or something.

Hows it running? How long have you been using it?

Looks good!

Awesome mod! I recommend a simple little valve to control flow, fluidized bed reactors really work best under optimal flow conditions and can be bad if not.

Also, just wondering about its necessity...

The little filter comes with a control valve at the top of the u tube. I just set it up a few days ago. I thought it would help with any phosphate issues that might pop up with the foods I feed.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat. :)

Why not have one? If it works on a smaller scale in a smaller tank then I see no difference from a phosban reactor in a large tank.

Keep us posted and thanks for sharing.

This may be a really stupid question but what are diffuser plates and where can you get them and where did you get the sponge? I'm thinking about making one (or two, one with carbon and one with phosphate media) for a ten gallon.

How well is it working?

Lance the diffuser plates are just a dime sized piece of plastic with holes drilled in it. I made mine. The sponge, I just shaved off a small piece off of a aquaclear sponge.

It is hard to tell if it is working because I had no detectable phosphate to begin with.
