Well, I pretty much did what the reef keeping article (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-12/fotm/index.php) did. diamond blade with the dremel to score it, then just one clip with tin snips and it came apart. When the dremel was cutting the coral, it was giving off the same smell as when you are in the dentist office getting your teeth drilled. I was able to get 9 frags, and keep the mouth attached with one.

I put two layers of egg create under them when i put them in my tank so they are off the sand bed. I am also running my skimmer a little wetter, and also dropped in a bag of carbon.

Sweet. I already called dibs on 1 frag. You're a braver man than I am. I couldn't have fragged such a beautiful plate. Good luck Corey!!!

Looks like a perfect frag job with out any loss from cutting. Nice work on that. I agree with Joe, it's gotta be scarry to cut it up.. What will you do with the new frags and how long do you expect the healing process to take for them?

Not sure on the healing time. Hopefully pretty quickly, but I am sure that wont be the case. Since they dont have any mouths, they will need to reply on the lighting to keep them alive. Once they heal, they will be up for sale. Agu, you can have first pick and it will be on the house!

Not sure what happened yesterday with extension as I wasnt home when the lights were on, but today it has looked pretty well. Of course, its not a great as it was before I fragged it, but it doesnt look like it will die either..

wow, now that it what I call fragging at its finest

everyone calls you brave, I say you are a budding pioneer, it does take bravery to cut your prized coral up into nine pieces, but if no one ever tried it, would we even know about fragging things?

Below are some pics that i just took! I think these frags will be ready to sell really soon! I am thinking 15 for the bigger ones and 10 for the smaller ones. Agu has first choice if he wants one. I will be keeping the one with the mouth.

Excuse the yellow tang. He is a rescue victim that needed to be saved! He is a happy little guy that eats like there is no tomorrow thankfully!

Do they grow a new mouth?

a2fire2i

Joe,
Per the article above "Over time the corals regain their roughly circular form, though sometimes they may have unusual skeletal features, and sometimes multiple mouths."

Corey, I'm in for a frag, pick out my choice.

I've done it with an orange plate. They recover quickly but takes 4 or 5 months for them to grow into circular shapes (my experience)

You should probably give them time to heal for another week or two.

I want a square one, I've never had a square coral ;)

I will try to take some photos tonight. The frags are prettty close to being back to the tentacle extension that they were before it was fragged.

I am sure it would do fine, but by the time you would pay for shipping over night across the us, you would probably find one out there for the same price. If you were closer, id consider shipping.

Below are some pics taken this AM. Please note that the lights on the tank are not on, and you can already see the frags starting to regain their purple rims.

So who wants a frag? $15 for the "square" ones and $10 for the triangle ones. I have 3 of each. All are doing great and healthy.

Just so you guys know these frags are at least second generation. I got the original coral at an ORCA auction and it was donated as a frag from another colony. The original coral was lime green with the purple skirt.

I will be in St pete next Thursday. Will this coral do well under Compact florecents. I'll take the runt if they do. How long in car is ok and what should I bring to transport?

Got my frag, thanks Cory it's my first square coral

When I first got that coral at an ORCA auction it was lime green with a purple rim. Interestingly the color changed to dusty rose with lime green tentacles ( the Mrs description of the color).

a2fire2i
01/05/2008, 06:57 PM
Haha..its crazy how much things can change over time. Before I fragged it, the rim had not much color to it for me, now i cannot find a spot without color.

I still have a few triangles for sale or trade..
