I have a 29 gallon bio cube in my office right now that is set up as a reef, but lately I haven't had much time to take care of it. I was wondering if you could keep smaller cichlids in this tank? Thanks.

Yeah, I don't see why not. If it's good enough for a reef, it sure is good enough for some cichlids. Some of the smaller shell dwellers would look great I bet. I think it would be interesting to watch each one defending their own little shell territory.

Try some Juliochromis. They stay small at 3 - 4" max. I had some in a 37 cube until they multiplied and they had to be moved to a bigger tank. :)

Would I add the bioballs and stock filter catridges back? I removed both for the reef. Also, would I need a skimmer for a freshwater tank?

I would add the bio balls and the filter cartridges back to the tank. You will not need a skimmer for a freshwater set-up. :)

Thanks for the info. I really like my reef, but I'm out of the office for days at a time and keeping it clean can be a pain.

I second the shelldwellers! they are awesome to watch and do well in smaller tanks!
