I'm thinking of downsizing for a while, but i dont like the looks of all the nanocubes, biocubes, etc...

I would like to see some pics of peoples CUSTOM nano's. Ones that are not common at all (or unique ;) ). I'm thinking of making a really shallow tank thats really long and not very deep front to back...so low water volume but lots of space. Not really lookin to keep a lot of fish...maybe a neon goby or something along those lines. More looking to get nice zoas and stuff...not the common softies or even the common sps...all more hard to come by stuff.

Not worried bout building the stuff..i can do that. I just need ideas!

Anyone got anything thats unusual? I know i've seen a few around here.

Like along the lines of Calvin's long tank? I've always loved the look of those.

Are you able to build your own or have a tank built to your dimensions?

Mine was built by Aquarium Obsessed. It is a 15" cube that is about 18" tall. It wasn't cheap but it is glass so it should last a lifetime.

Mine was built by Scott at www.AquaticSystemsDesign.com Hot off the presses- Here's a pic he sent me of the completed 16g tank:

"exigency" built his own custom tank. Step up and take a bow here, because yours is one of the nicest and most unique I have seen. :)

havent seen his long tank...well i prolly have just cant remember it. But i love long tanks

But yes, i can build it...well my buddy is the one good with glass, not me lol, but i can get it built. I plan to do custom canopy and everything too.

Thanks for the pics guys ;)

Right now i'm kinda thinkin maybe a tank that is 24 long by 10 or 12 front to back by 10 or 12 high. That way its long enough to do t5's. I really wanna do t5's because i'm extremely happy with the color i get with my current t5's in my 40. They make completely normal corals looks way better, and the rare stuff looks completely insane

But 24x10x10 is only 10 gallons (and a half or somethin...). I just want lots of display space with lots of water.

Any suggestions on design or anything? What all should go in it as far as equipment? I'd probably get a false overflow to hide the powerheads and have them return through loc-lines.

I'm a big fan of that idea. I suspect that's why the all in one tanks are so popular. If you're going custom , 12" front to back or more is preferred. Not only will an overflow hold your equipment, you have to in there to hook it up.

BTW, some nice custom tanks

Long and low huh? Not exactly custom, but here's some photo's of my 20 Long tank. http://www.mosquitonet.com/~wanderer/tanks/tank.htm Looks kind of lousy right now because I neglected it this summer.

I've always thought a 33 long would be fun to play with too.
