Hey there, I was wondering what type of Zoa these might be:

Nearly full tank shot ( 75 gallon):

Also, notice the white spots on tthe heads.. What are these? They aren't bumpy and don't seems to be affecting the growth/opening up of the polyps, it just seems like a slow bleaching or something. I am giving them alot of light, should I lower them in the tank? Could it be too much calcium? They are growing to be huge compared to when I first got them.

Lighting: 48" Teklight with 4x54 watts lamps, 2 blue 2 white.
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 5.0
Ph: 8.0
Alk/Calcium untested, tank given initial recommended does of Bio calcium a few days ago, test kit coming soon.

Xenia/mushrooms/soft corals and fish/inverts are all doing great, these white spots seem to be the only problem.

Thanks!

Cheebs.

I see that there is an ID specific forum for zoanthids. However the more important question is the one concerning the white spots.

Thanks.

The white spots in the purple? Or one bit spot in the center? The center spot looks like a typical zoa mouth. The spots in the purple looks like simple color speckling. I've seen lots of zoas do that, changes due to light are a guess, also could be water changes.

A closeup would help for sure.

As far as ID, good luck with that. I can make up some silly name if you'd like.

Thanks for the help Python. Yup, I was talking about the spots on the purple part around the mouth, not the mouth itself. You must be right about color speckling, because like I said it doesn't seem to be causing an other ill effects. I'll try and get some kind of closeup, the camera's auto focus was acting up.

Thanks again, and don't worry about the ID hehe I was just curious.

Cheers,

Cheebs.

Like python said the speckling comes from the light, you could lower them but if they are growing then I wouldnt touch them... Also your ph seems a little low and you really shouldnt be dosing something you cant test, just a friendly reminder... Get a test kit for both calcium and Alk, it is one of the better purchases, especially if you want to keep corals...
