Is any one looking for lights? I just upgraded to halides and tore down a tank and have a bunch of stuff.

(2) pfo metal halides 175w and one usiho 10k bulb (3 months old)the other one broke moving the lights around  $100 for all

(1) pfo metal halide 400w with 20k bulb the bulb age is unknown I didn't buy the bulb or halide new but the color is good. $150

(3) industrial 250 watt halide balists these are the tar ballists that look like florescent ballists, they are a sealed unit so no box or heat sink is needed. kind of a diy thing you would have to wire them up but that’s easy and I have new mogul sockets for each one. 1 ballist & 1 socket = $40

(1) odyssey 48" hood 4 65 watt pc's and moon lights approx 6 months old $75

(1) coral life 48" retro kit 4 65 watt pc's $100

If any one is interested let me know I can bring them to the meeting friday.

What does the odyssey 48" hood 4 65 watt pc's and moon lights look like?

Are the MH lights just bulbs or whole fixtures?

Can you snap some pictures and post or send them to me please?

Bob

Would one of the 175w MH's work well with a 20 gallon setup I'm planning on starting? I know you're selling as a pair but I would only need one. I'm trying to decide whether or not to go with T5's of MH. With the summers here I think the T5's will help keep the tank cooler but with my limited knowledge I don't know for sure.

What do you plan on putting in your tank?

T5 are a nice setup but I know twisted have just as hard of time with temps on his tank with t5's as I do with halides on my tank.

I'm not going to break up the pair but for $100 it's a steel for the set.

A 175w would work great on a 20 gallon but the bulb I have is a 10k so it would be very white with out atinics. I would run a 15k on 20k with a 175 or 250 watt hallide if I was going to do a 20 gallon

$100 for two is a steal. I doubt you will find a single one for any less.

True True... I remember seeing a pair at reef connections for I believe 250 and I thought that was a deal.

I'm planning on going with a lot of the basics and easy to care for corals. Your typical reef safe fish that are easy to care for as well. I've been doing research for the past 6 months or so and have been back and forth on whether or not to go with a 29 gallon cube or to just use a 20 I have right now and convert to saltwater. The cubes will run me around 300 for the basic one (non red sea) when all I would really be gaining is the all in one package, which would be more appealing to the eyes but with the situation I'm in with space it's not going to be a focal point in my house.

My plans are to slowly build up things and hopefully by thanksgiving (not too far away in fact) be ready to get it running. I've seen numerous things on craigslist and I'm actually going probably take a look at one in oroville I believe for $200 that has a power compact (Probably Junk, but I dont know) skimmer and 55 gallon tank along with the sand and live rock, which is a pretty good deal, although I dont think I have the space for another 55 as I'm breeding some freshwater fish right now and have my racks pretty well filled. The rock is covered in algae in the pictures he has on craigslist but I would obviously get that taken care of. I just dont have the space. If someone is interested in a 55 and wants some live rock with it we could go in on it together and save us both a lot of money.

I'm talking out of my tail at this point but regardless I would love to have the metal halides if I knew exactly where I'm headed with setup. $100 is definately a deal and I would be surprised to find a better deal.

I've got a Red Sea tank if you're interested in seeing one in person sometime. I like it... then again, I love nanos.

I would love to see the red sea in action sometime.. I've seen the smaller nano's setup at reef connections and pets etc. and they look good but too small for me. The red sea tanks are great I'm just a little afraid to spend $500+ on just the tank setup when I'm not 100% sure that's what I want.

Yeah. The other tank you might want to check out is the new JBJ 28g HQI. Metal Halides, Wavemaker, Protein Skimmer, etc.... very nice tank IMO.

I've seen them on the forums but I haven't seen one in person. The 28 is what I was initially set on. The HQI is pretty crazy but the cost is out of my range from what I've seen. I would have to see one in person to be sold on it.

10/23/2007, 05:32 PM
Do they PFO Halides have the ballasts included?

kyletech
10/23/2007, 07:17 PM
food stamp : I still have everything but I am in Redding.

iairj84 : the 175 watt should read 2- 175 watt pfo ballists only 1 bulb.

Thanks Kyle,
Is it ready to go or do you need the sockets/reflector as well?

kyletech
10/23/2007, 07:46 PM
sockets no reflectors on the 175w's complete on the 400w

iairj84
10/23/2007, 07:53 PM
See 400 is WAYY too much for my 20 gallon setup. it would be impossible to keep the temps under control. I don't have a canopy or the whole reflector deal wouldnt be a big issue for me.

kyletech
10/23/2007, 07:58 PM
reflector are cheap or easy to make. Take a look in the diy section. I've been thicking about setting up a 20 gallon frag tank with the 400w just hanging it higher up.

I wonder if they would fit in the DIY shop light type fixture it seems it actually outperformed some of the premade fixtures.

all so i can get refleters cheap sunsysytem or hydrofarms u can do a search on the net let me know what one u like and all get u a price.... My good friend owns a hydroponic store and gives me 20 to 40% off the cheapest one is like 15 bucks its a "batwing" sunsystem....

iairj84
10/24/2007, 12:24 PM
Check prices on the pendant style fixtures if you can. I am not too interested in the batwing style reflector as It will be hanging and I want as much light on the tank as possible. I would much rather use something made for a halide than a DIY setup, although I could go that route.....

Sorry Kyle about all the chatter, if it works out I think we'll be good to go

foodstamp
10/24/2007, 01:19 PM
do a search for hydrofarms or sunsystem hoods under hydroponics and find somthing to fit your style my favorite is the "daystar" it has 6" cooling flanges and reflects more light then any hood I have ever used & i have tryes just about everyone for greenhouse applaction, Thats what im gonna use cus i allerady have them. I think they make a smaller one with 4" flanges I forget the name of it....
