I'm not sure if this is a LPS or SPS, hubby brought it home for my B-day.

still not the best pic but it does appear to be encrusting a rock in that pic which would eliminate it being a pagoda. encrusting Hydnophora do have large polyps but they usually tend to be less singled out, sorry i can't be of any help :(

as a last ditch effort to ID it, could you pull it from the tank, allow the polyps to fully retract and snap a pic while it's still out of the tank?

EDIT:

a Hydnophora out of the tank with polyps retracted:

its a hydno. the shape of the polyp "canals" etc... wow, i have never seen any other hydno other than the normal green. That blue and especially the orange is phenomenal!! I would love a piece if you're ever selling a frag!

hold the rock it's encrusted onto with coral facing down into your hand (preferable with a rubber glove on) and smack hell out of the back side with a hammer, now you got frags.

Jetcat USA,
LOL. Sounds easy enough. I'll let you know how it turns out. If I'm brave enough to do it!

Alveopora are much smaller and have 12 very distinct petals, it's not an Alveopora.

JetCat USA,
each petal has a very sharp hard feel to it.
