Fish Kill Blamed on Red Tide Algae
Volusia County biologists said Monday a massive fish kill along two miles of the county's shoreline was caused by the Red Tide, a dangerous algae bloom. Tens of thousands of fish have died recently in the area around New Smyrna Beach. The Red Tide algae attacks the central nervous system in fish and then kills them. In the past, off-shore breezes have caused beachgoers and waterfront residents to suffer respiratory problems as well as sneezing and itchy eyes when the Red Tide is blooming.
Nasty stuff!
