I actually am looking for Gary Gregoire. I pm'd him - but haven't heard back. he gave me a mini carpet at one of the meetings. Of course now I have about 9 - or that's how many I can see. In a 37 G cube, I figure it is time to share. I just wanted to know what is the best way to get them to let go.

btw - anyone interested in one if I do succeed in detaching?

I have one, they are nice. How big does your carpet grow?

Would you have a pic by chance?

I am still working on the picture thing.

Mine seem to top out just shy of 2in diameter. I really like them, they are always so happy!

Sara,

are those the same we bought in a group buy about a year or so ago? I have a few, call them mini or dollar anemone's. I started with 3 and now have them all over. Have the same problem, though. Not sure how to remove them. They seem to bury into holes and I would have to cut the peticle to get them out; that probably wouldn't be good.

Well someone at brs told me to try a credit card. I actually have a couple in the corner on glass. I think these will be easy. Then I am going to try one on the top of a rock if the glass one is successful. The problem is, several settled on one of my power heads, which I have not cleaned in 6 months. I got my first one from Gary at a meeting, I won it!

I am heading out to Matts today to catch up with some old CDMAS friends.

Sara,

would be nice to see a picture! I will try to do the same.

Please say hello to everyone from CDMAS

i still have a few too from the group buy. mine are easy to move(if in a clearing and you can get a hold along the entire bottom surface) and get as big as an inch but soon after being that big they split quickly.

Well I have one on the glass so that should be easy. I am going to try a couple stuck on the power head. I read somewhere that some one had one that grew to 5 in! I thin that one must be a different kind. My biggest is a little shy of 2 in when fully expanded. Thanks reefD.

My biggest is about the same size - 2" plus

ReefD, have you tried getting the stalk off of rock with success? Can you just cut the pedicle?

try using an ice cube on the outside of the glass, that will help him want to get off.... i wouldnt recommend it inside the tank though....

simply push the anemone off the glass with your finger ;)

What about on the rock - any suggestions?

say a prayer :D

seriously, though- if you can remove the rock and suspend the anemones upside down they have a habit of dropping off their rocky perch- especially if the rock is tapped with something that causes small vibrations. If you can't get 'em to drop you'll need to chisel 'em off or send the rock with the anemone.

Thank you Gary - i have three on a powerhead I have not cleaned in 2 months because I did not want to hurt them. I am going to try that upside down tap tap method.

if the anemones are on a clean smooth surface you should be able to literally scrape them off with something like a credit card.

Ah,

the prayer didn't work!

I will try the upside down thing - that is an interesting maneuver! As I checked my tank yesterday I noticed they are spreading like wild fire, but only the ones further down the tank (less light) are getting big.

Hmm do they become a nuisance like aptasia?

well to remove off of rock. i have tried/done. what ussually happenes when they are in an uneven surface is u damage them. i mean u get the head but no disk. now in my experience both die from this. dont get me wrong im sure they can be sliced and fragged/or whatever, but they dont take to the proccess well at all. in my experience i think of mushrooms. easy to frag and recover well when torn/etc....but the mini's dont do as well when the same occurs.

no....when we got them as a group buy the guy that had them showed pics of his tank. they can spread like crazy but they rather live in harmony and are beautiful! not ugly like aptasia, and dont attack other corals at all. mine have been in the sps field and didnt harm a thing. they do move around like any anemone.

I agree with David,

they do not become a nuisance. Mine have nice little groups, also as David mentioned, and they do not bother anything else - no apparent chemical warfare, and, unlike Aiptasia, they are pretty! I will have to try and cut the stalk at it's most proximal portion one of these days and see what happens.

I've been great, thanks.
I'm glad the mini carpet anemones turned out to be a success story over there.
I'm also wondering what happened to Gary Greguire.

Well would nayone want to do a group buy of these again? Or does anyone know where they were ordered from last time.

I know where they came from :wavehand:

I'd be surprised if nobody in the Albany area can supply you with them now...
