sittininthe hospital waiting roomin Kansas...space bar is broken, bearwith me!! Question: has anyone used the buffing solutions available that use a solution, and a round drill pad? Also, if that tank is that old, it should be drillable, right? Is there a way to tell if its tempered glass?
thanks for the assistance, and the support. Looking forward to meeting the experts...

i think your taking your chances on drilling with out knowing. i dont think there is a way to tell. most tanks have a sticker on the bottom saying if it has tempered glass.

in the long run may be easyer to install an overflow box.

If it is a glass tank, buffing out scratches especially deep ones will be very difficult. you will need to buy proper sanding discs for glass and compound. I have done it once before and it is a lot of work.
Most aquariums have the bottoms tempered but not all of them are. very very few tanks have tempered sides. in fact i have never seen one. Good luck and if they are small scratches they may not be that noticeable when filled with water.

consuelo – Here are some threads that were started today on drilling holes and checking to see if you have tempered glass:

I’ve never tried to buff out any scratches in glass. Wonder what they did to scratch them up that bad and not break it? That alone may mean it is not tempered!
