Dave,
Quick question. It's just the root (botton inch or so where there is less green pigment?) that needs to be in the water, correct?

yeah that would be fine, it could be submerged more if need be. also i forgot to say, its good to mist them with fresh water every once in a while b/c they absorb the salt and it builds up on there leaves.

The misting is required if the are not in a closed sump area to keep humidity up. I do it every day like an orchid.

can you define closed sump area? If my 30g sump below my 120g has an open top, but the doors are closed, do i still need to mist daily?

i have my mangroves below just as you would and i have yet to mist them since i moved the tank. i used to mist daily but i didnt notice a difference when i stopped doing that.

OK--I mounted them on styrofoam as you or someone mentioned==in sump.
