Not personal expert on these, but I've read quite a bit on RC. Seems there are naysayers who profess that once an arm goes, the animal is dead. And others who tracked the process, and indeed it WAS reproduction.

So keep us posted--I believe that as long as it isn't melting and dissolving, you can leave it to see what happens.

I would try to find the other arm, just in case it died, to get necrotic tissue out of the tank.

sounds good ill keep an eye out. the other arm thats lost might be hard to find within all the rock work in the 125 but ill take a look. hopefully its reproduction not dieing. the linkia is still grazing all over the tank too.

I have linckia and it is not a good sign that you are losing two arms. I am no expert so take it with a grain of salt.

is that a grain of oceanic salt? ;-)

The fact that the Linkia has lost two arms is nothing to be alarmed about. Now, if its arm is still attached or detached and it is disintegrating, youve got a problem. Its kinda like a Kenya tree coral losing multiple branches at one time, perfectly fine and in some cases, normal.

Congratulations. You now have at least 1 new linkia if not 2. Let us all know what happens. Ive got a Blue Link going on 2 years old ( hasnt lost any arms) now and am awaiting the split if it ever happens.

Take some pics!

Tang, that is encouraging--I've read lore that all starfish make it only up to 18 months in fishtanks-but no longer for mysterious reasons.

just looked at the main linkia body and it looks to me as though the arms where they were lost are healed over with no white material as though its dissolving. im no expert at this so time will only tell.

Yes it is Dog. I had been wanting a Blue linkia forever, but never touched one because of the "myth" surrounding their survival rate. I attribute a part of the success to having about 150 lbs of live rock to obtain food (Bio-film) from. I also acclimated (no drip) for maybe 15 minutes and dropped him right in. He's been a happy camper ever since. If I knew how to post pics here, Id post a couple.

Sorry to stray your thread a little Westy ;)

i had great success with my blue linkia in my 75 gallon up until i transferred everything to my 125 gallon. i lost a few things, thats why i think my tank might have had a small spike. so i then got a purple linkia and now this. i figure ill let nature take its course, sit back and observe.

thanks for your input tang, go ahead and post up pictures if you want in here id love to see them. if my dog didnt think my digital camera was a chew toy i would have posted pictures to show whats going on with my purple linkia

Tang, upload your pictures to photobucket.com.

Then there are 3 bars next to each picture. Click on IMG code, which automatically copies it. Then come back to the reply window here and just paste it For example,

Well whaddya know. I never thought it worked because when I went to "preview", the IMG tags still showed, unlike on other reef sites where you preview, it actually shows the pic. Hmmm, learn sumthin new every day:)
