My CDs are scratched, my local radio is hopelessly limited, the drive to PHX has stations fading in and out. CAN'T STAND IT!

Oh--Howard Stern--I could take him or leave him...so which service?

Or does it really even matter?

Also--thinking I'll just get it done at best buy for convenience--anywhere else you'd recommend to have the thing installed?

I have XM and like it a lot. I have a few friends that have sirius and like it too. I guess it is just which one you can get a better deal on. I hardly listen to the regular radio at all anymore.

I think Sirius has a better variety than XM

id check out soundworks if your going to be in phx. ive seen some of the installers at bestbuy and circuit city not knowing what they are doing and just do a sloppy job to get it done.

I have been hearing commercials in my truck on XM. Very lame

I wouldn't buy it unless it comes free in your car.

My Jetta came with 3 months of free Sirrius. I let it lapse but if I was on the road I would get it again. The selection is great.

Sirius has a better selection IMO. Both have commercials on some of their channels but not most. As someone else said Sirius is buying XM so it may not matter. I second soundwerks. They have a sop on bell around 36th st or so and one in Scottsdale on Scottsdale just N of McDowell. I installed stereo's for a few years and have seen their work, they don't shortcut. I take everything I cant or don't want to do to them. JMO

If Howard Stern doesn't matter (which makes sense to me) then you can go with the Baseball or Football. One of them has a contract with each sport. I have XM...which I bought for the Hockey personally. I don't think your going to care either way. It's nice when you get out of radio reception!

I would go Sirius, but I would also get a cd deck that has sd memory card slots. No scratches, no skipping, your music choices.

I'll agree with all above that recommend Sirius. I kept both Sirius and XM for the first year, then dropped XM and kept Sirius. I agree that the playlists are better, the DJs are better, and the channel selection is better.

by the way if you decide to have soundwerks do your install, i would call in advance and tell them you are coming from flag to make sure they will save you a time slot to have the install done. they are usually really busy.

Can you switch to Sirius if your car has XM built in?

As far as I know, no. They take different recievers that aren't interchangeble. You would need to get an external unit.

Yes you can. There is a gadget that converts the XM signal to Sirius. Don't ask me what its called. I heard Howard Stern talking about it.

I had XM installed in my new truck. I went to Best Buy, got a Sirus receiver and changed them out. Now I have Sirius instead. Its a pretty simple process as all the connections are the same.

I'd say Sirius, especially if you like metal. No metal of any type (old or new) on XM.

Sirius is the best for NFL coverage also

I went with Sirius. The shop mentioned couldn't fit me in, so I had to go with bestbuy. Two questions:

I didn't realize I would have to pay an extra 3 bucks or so per month to get digital quality reception. Do yaa'l pay or this--is it worth it?

Second--I'm noticing it seem to *sometimes*take 2 tries to aquire signal. That is, I crank up the car, in a few seconds it aquires the signal--then maybe 5-10 seconds later, it seems to skip a quick beat and then reacquire the signal permanently. Is this normal?

digital quality reception? I have never heard any thing about that. Did Sirius or Best Buy tell you about it? I have always paid 12.99 a month. They never offered any digital reception.

Second, Mine only loses reception when I go under an over pass.

Same here. The signal is already digital, never heard of anything "extra".

The extra $3 is if you are listening online and you want to go from the standard quality to "Premium Audio Quality"

I have an XM radio that came with my Yukon. I ordered the service for 2 years. The music that they played was very random at time. I couldn't find a channel that I really liked.

After 2 years the price went up and I decided not to renew. Two months later I get a call asking if I wanted to renew. I said no. They then told me I owed them money for the two months after my contract ran out because I never called and canceled. They will never get another dime from me. :mad2:

I had Sirius in a rental car and found the music selection much better. Plus the have the NFL Network which alone would be worth it for me.

Sirius is way better IMO.

glad I bought sirius! Wierd about the extra 3 bucks--the explanation was completely unclear.

I'll keep my eye(ear) on the reception---apparently it's lifetime guarantee, so if it ain't workin' right, I can take it back next time I'm in the valley and get those jokers to fix it.
